I really hope so. I enjoy watching professional football that isn’t rigged

Considering the owner is Vince McMahon who duped hillbillies for decades into thinking wrestling wasn't rigged....I wouldn't hold your breath.
Plus the other team can hear your play calls in real time. There is no delay. So yeah, it's kinda rigged already

So you want to see players die from heat stroke on the field?

Why doesn't the NFL just start a developmental minor league.
That's the only thing that will likely work long term from a funding standpoint. You can get some of those high school kids that have no interest in college or early entry college players not quite ready for NFL to let them develop.

The NBA has backed the WNBA all these years, without that, there is no league.

But I think McMahnon should have waited until the NBA and NHL playoffs are over to launch this. From mid June until the end of August nothing else is happening except MLB. And that coincides with many people starting to crave football again. I think many will want a break from football for a few months. Putting most of the teams in cities with NFL teams was also a questionable decision.

Agree with both of these, plus the team branding is pretty meh, like the options you get in Madden when moving a team, bland as hell.

If this is you asking if the XFL will become that? I think the answer is it won’t because Vince doesn’t want it to

I have to say, I think its going to make it this time. Atleast for awhile. The reason I say that is because Vegas has got behind it with the gambling . Also FanDuel. Also not to mention the media buy in with it being on ABC, FOX and ESPN. Vince already said he is willing to fund it for 3 years in hopes that it will be self sufficient by then..... not sure if that will happen but I'm looking for it to be around atleast 3 years.

anyways..... GEAUX ROUGHNECKS!!!!

How much did Vince cash out for this? Like 300 million? I wish he had taken that money and bought Newcastle United instead, as it was rumored he was looking at doing about 4 years ago.

This league has a few thing going for it AAF doesn't

Quicker games
big network buy-in
Enough innovative rule changes so it isn't just a NFL-lite product
Enough money to sustain it longer
Transparency through mics on sidelines an replay booths.

I don't think so.

It needs to grow in order to get notable players. I just don't think they can sustain demand long enough with a bunch of has been/no name type guys to get to the point they'd need to get to to be able to afford more noteworthy guys.

It’s highly unlikely that the XFL will be around for the long term, I.e., indefinitely. It will need reliable and substantial tv revenue. Much wider and deeper coverage, with the sponsorship that entails, than I see happening now. If the major networks start signing long term substantial deals, the odds improve.

I agree. With the XFL starting 6 days after the Super Bowl, I'm just not missing football enough yet to really want to sit down and watch a new league.

The one thing I would like to see is what adjustments are made by the league after the first season. That's something the XFL 1.0 and the AAF never got to do.

I think Oliver Luck is a pretty smart guy. Give him and his people a chance to sit down and figure out what works and what doesn't and make some changes.

Let him ask questions like...

Are we in the right markets? What sorts of markets work best? Do we need to relocate a team or two?

Are we in the right market, but the wrong venues? (...looking at you, New York.)

What types of coaches work best?

Do we need to increase payroll to attract better players? How much, and in what ways?

What's the best source of players? CFL? NFL Practice Squads? Do we start signing kids out of the NCAAs?

I'm really interested to see if McMahon and Luck are serious about making this work, and if they can make those on-the-fly adjustments.

Really? My guess was that Vince wanted it to eventually be absorbed by the NFL for more tv revenue and it would be name the X league for Experimental league. Similar to the G league. And that’s where the NFL would experiment with new rule changes and train full time refs before promoting them to the NFL. and they could relegate shitty nfl refs down the the X league

I thought that was literally Vince’s plan all along. I personally think that’s the only way the league survives or is profitable at all.

European soccer teams are typically money pits outside of a select few teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man U). They really aren’t good investments.

I don’t think that at all.
I think he wants to do this to compete with the NFL.
Eventually have more money, steal players and then have some teams adopted by the NFL. Kinda like how the USFL tried to do

I just don’t see the XFL ever competing with the nfl or ever stealing players from the nfl. Maybe 10 years down the line, but I think the only way they survive 10 years is if the nfl steps in to fund some of it. Time will tell, really hard to predict anything after the first week. The one quarter of the game I watched was better than I expected. D1 level of play. Might have just been a good team though.

I agree
I just don’t think that’s how VM is thinking. Just my opinion though
