Is the SEC West(as we define it) the deepest division in Bball going forward in the NCAA?

4 different teams made the SWEET 16 in the last 2 tournaments, with one final four and more possibly

All four seem to have coaches that will keep them constantly there for the future.

Discuss?

Hard to say considering how hard it can be to sustain success in basketball.

True. Def isnt a definite, but the fact its even possible is wild

It seems Wade has proven he will be a perennial tournament guy at least, same with Pearl

Using Muss and Oats at their last stops it seems they will too.

I think the SEC is the deepest conference in basketball
In the last 4 tournaments
9 different teams made the sweet 16
4 of those made the elite 8
2 of those made the final four

You may want to check out the ACC

9 different teams made the sweet 16
8 of those made the elite 8
3 of those made the final four
2 of them won the championship

ETA: I did the last four completed tournaments

I don't know if I'd say the deepest. You have a lot of inconsistency outside of Florida and Kentucky in that 4 year period. Vandy made a NCAAT...and has been awful since. USC made the Final Four....then hasn't been really close since. MSU has one appearance. As does Ole Miss and A&M. Alabama and Arkansas seemed to be alternating years. Tennessee has been there for 3 straight (though they wouldn't have made it last season) Auburn made three straight before having a down season. LSU has been consistent the last 3 years...but may be looking at a down year.

Really, you have several programs who seem to be capable of putting together a good year or two here and there, but not many who have sustained success

Don’t think this is right.
Since the 2017 tournament only 2 have made the final four
UNC and UVA

I did since the 2016 tournament because you know the full results. This tournament is still ongoing and could make or break your argument depending on this weekend.

Well duh, and if that happens I’ll change it to just sweet 16 to fit my narrative

Auburn made the NCAAT three years in a row* (counting 2019-2020 season as an appearance, as they would’ve had a very high seed before Covid-19 ended the season) before having a down season.

Auburn fielded the least experienced team in college basketball this year but is expected to compete next season.

The SEC West is not top heavy at all.

I'll disagree. But the SEC is becoming a contender for that title. Definitely not there yet. But I'm not surprised at all by these numbers. I remember, I guess about 8 years ago, street a big TV football deal was signed, every SEC school seemed to start spending a lot more money on basketball coaches. I was shocked by every signing, and how much better they were then I expected to be hired. And the coaches that didn't work out, have been by other coaches on the rise.

Then some schools started upgrading facilities. And I expect more to follow. As Nate Oats said when asked if he minded coaching at a football school, football makes a lot of money and I'm glad to spend it. There's been talks for years about fixing that shithole, Coleman. I'm hoping this current run gets the boosters signing more checks. And once Bama does it, more will follow suit.

SEC basketball has tons of potential. And while basketball is still a strong second fiddle, everyone down south loves running and talking shite. Once people get a taste of success in March, that'll start to get hooked.
