re: Is the Braves' move to the suburbs the start of a new trend?

Busch, Camden, AT&T, Coors, Wrigley, Fenway, Target Field, Petco Park etc etc.
Stadiums in the city are by far the best experiences in baseball. There isn't a single "legit" suburb stadium in all of baseball.
Angels stadium sucks, Rangers stadium sucks, oakland sucks and the list can go on and on.
One of the worst OPs I've seen.

FedEx Field is the worst stadium location ever. Takes forever to get there and back from NW DC, and there is nothing to do in the immediate area.
I always hoped the success of Nationals Park would push Snyder to move the Skins back into the District, but he's holding firm with that monstrosity in Landover. I say this as someone who hates the Redskins. Just think it would be a great experience to have the team playing close by with all the infrastructure that would arise around the stadium.

Ditto. Absolutely NO atmosphere around the stadium as the Tom Hicks kept some parking lots for his pockets. I hold out hope that when it comes time for a new stadium (it won't be anytime because honestly, it still looks good) they will go to Dallas. But I feel that Arlington will never ever let them get away. They can build a new one at the old Arlington Stadium location.

They were promised by Atlanta that the area around Turner would be developed. They didn't keep their word, and the Braves told them to frick off.
A lot of that was also stymied by the Braves wanting to bid on their own RFP and having the city cough up $150-$250 million it didn't have to renovate/redo the Ted. As a CoA taxpayer, good fricking riddance, plus I live only a few miles from the new place and don't have to pay for it.

I thought Snyder was already drawing up plans to move though.

Doesn't help the fanbase living in North Fulton, Gwinnett, or the east metro that has to now get stuck on I-285 during rush hour.
The connector is just as bad. At least this way a lot of them are moving opposite work traffic on 285.

285 is a disaster heading westbound from those areas towards the park during afternoon rush hour. Unless someone cut through GA 120 in East Cobb, they pretty much have to go that way.

Both are bad. But at least most who are going to the park are already heading that direction up the connector going home, so you're not going to see that much of an increase of traffic. If anything, it's a shorter commute for the majority of season ticket holders. And finally provides a place to go hang out before and after the game, which would never would be said in the current location.

I travel to St. Louis a lot.
Busch Stadium is a work of art. I've been to numerous games there and its awesome. My time inside the stadium, its seating, drinks, food? AWESOME.
The surrounding area? Meh at best. Not an area designed for easy access to fun and frolic outside the ballpark.

Given the riots of the misguided troubled youths in inner cities, maybe the Braves were ahead of the curve. I bet the Orioles wish Camden was in the 'burbs about now.
After 9/11: "I bet the Yankees wish they played in Kentucky!"
Moustache after the Oklahoma City bombing: "They'll never get an NBA team here now!"
Oh, wait none of those happened, because Moustache is simply a race obsessed loon.

LOL at the Braves starting a trend in anything other than losing.

being observant is apparently considered being "race obsessed."
It doesn't take a rocket scientists to draw very true and very accurate conclusions about demographics in this country.

Camden is not in the ghetto. It's walking distance from the inner harbor which is a great area and there are many bars and restaurants right across the street from Camden Yards and several more within easy walking distance.
Granted the ghetto isn't too far away from the ballpark, but the Orioles moving would be an idiotic idea. They have one of the best setups in baseball.

When was the last time you were here?
Mike Shannons, 360 ontop the Hilton, Ball park village, Paddy Os, Broadyway Oyster Bar and the entire Neighborhood of Soulard.
You weren't doing it right my man....

frick no. If you've ever been to Baltimore, you would know that Baltimore City attracts a younger crowd and is far more interesting with a lot more things to do than in the Baltimore County suburbs. And the safety issue is overblown. I've never felt unsafe or had any problems at Camden Yards. You can't believe everything you see in the news.

This. The stadium is incredible and the inner harbor is really nice, it's not like it's in the ghetto.
Do you really think that people who the majority of their knowledge of Baltimore comes from The Wire and ridiculously slanted news coverage can (or are even willing to) understand that?

Shannons is a nice restaurant, not a place to fun and frolic.
I was staying at the Hilton... the 360? That's your idea of a happening place? Oh lawd... I think I'm beginning to see the problem here.
(Gonna have to try the Oyster Bar next time, sounds delicious.)

No--ICYMI the Texas Rangers have played in Arlington since they moved to DFW in 1972.
Maybe they started the trend before it became cool.

Rangers stadium sucks
Globe Life Park does NOT suck! Now the area around it and the team playing in it, I'll have to concede those do suck.
