Since the year 2000, there have been multiple qbs taken no.1 overall. Let’s look at the list and review in no particular order:

Bryce young
David carr
Jamarcus Russell
Sam Bradford
Mathew stafford
Jamies Winston
Jared goff
Kyler Murray
Trevor Lawrence
Cam Newton
Carson Palmer
Michael Vick
Andrew luck
Alex smith
Baker mayfield
Joe burrow
Eli manning

So out of a list of 17 qbs over 24 years you have 3 super bowls (1 of which didn’t even occur until the quarterback was traded) and 2 additional Super Bowl appearances with what I would say is a handful of average qbs, 3 really good qbs and 2 great ones. After reviewing the evidence it is my belief that drafting a qb with the first overall pick is a waste. You would be much better off addressing the offensive or defensive line considering if you have the no.1 pick it probably means you have a plethora of issues.

If it hits, then it’s a big money saver for a few years. But I see your point, DT, OL, DE or LB are solid

The Bears do not have a choice. If you don't take Williams and he is good at all, you are never getting another job in the league, unless the person you take is a HOF level player. If he busts, it's not that big of a deal, cause everybody else would have taken him too..

The odds of acquiring a franchise QB via trade, free agency, or later rounds are slim to none.

I’d lure Washington into swapping picks

Looking at the best quarterbacks from the past 24 years, most have come from mid to late 1st rounds. Which would point to most successful quarterbacks going to successful franchises.

It's a huge risk. Nobody wants to miss out on not drafting the next Patrick Mahomes (who wasn't even drafted #1). We have seen how having an elite QB can shift a franchise.

The thing is, those elite QBs who can do that don't exactly grow on trees.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

correct which is why I didn’t say you shouldn’t take them in the 1st round I said you shouldn’t take them no.1

Every situation is different. Some guys just have no shot at success (David carr) and others get the bag and stop caring (JaMarcus Russell). It's a crap shoot.

Is there another draft slot that shows better results?

I'd guess not, so it seems like if you want to win relative to drafting a QB, 1st overall is your best bet.

I really hope Chicago does what they do best and go with Bo Nix at number 1.

All of those players went to shite teams. I’d like to see the success rate of those players compared to those who were drafted later.

Yes, it just so happens that the leagues worst team drafts a QB and usually they’re horribly run programs like the Chicago Bears who have yet to have a QB throw 30+ TDs in a season.

Why do you use Super Bowl rings as a metric to grade the pick of a QB but not the picks of OL/DL?

This just isn’t true when Brady, Purdy, Cousins, and Dak are current / recent examples.

He’s also using the laziest argument of all time counting just Super Bowl wins. By that metric every one should wait on QB til pick 199

Newton was a league MVP and got to a SB

Luck was considered one of the top QBs in the league but retired at 29 did get to at least 1 AFCCG

Burrow was drafted by a franchise that had zero playoff wins in 30 years and got to a SB year 2 and AFCCG year 3 was injured in year 4 going into year 5 also considered one of the top QBs in the league

Goff also got to a SB that’s 3 additional SBs not 2.

Lawrence going into year 4, does have a playoff win needs to step up but 3 of other 4 QBs drafted in the first round his year have been traded already and Wilson probably will be so who should they have waited on?
