Nascar isn't a sport and its no where near the most mentally exhausting competition.

No it's not, motocycle racing is certainly more draining.

There are no pit stops in motorcycle racing and you're a lot more worried about tire wear because it isn't just a matter of traction but also a matter of staying upright. Braking and accelerating on a motorcycle take more thought as well because it's so easy to give it too much and then crash with nothing there to protect you.

It's a physical sport too. These riders aren't buckled into bucket seats so tight they can't move. They're fighting g forces and wind resistance as they hit around 215 mph. Just crazy.

Some samples:

^He's fighting the g-forces with his arms as he brakes so hard the back tire comes off the ground.

^ This kind of crash is called a highside and is what happens when you accelerate too quickly, causing the back tire to lose traction and step out.

^ They even take to the dirt sometimes.

My response to all who say Basketball is a sport but NASCAR isn't.

Stick Lebrons arse in a casket sized enclosure, where odds are he will lose about 20 lbs of water weight due to the temperatures inside said casket. Stick him in there for 4 hours Then let him hold it together at 180 when the arse end of the car gets lose in the 3rd hour of said event. Out of football, basketball, and Nascar, NASCAR is the most physically & mentally demanding.

Unreal how good those riders are.

I used to have a CBR and I laid it down several times. Could not imagine taking turns like those guys do on the track so close to the pavement.

NASCAR is not a sport, it's cars driving in circles. People do that everyday, just at 55-75 MPH.

Damn motorcycle racing looks pretty tough. Definitely wouldn't skimp on the helmet.

I agree, motorcycle racing is very physically demanding. NASCAR isn't even in the same ballpark.

You can torture yourself other ways and not call it a self. Just get over the fact that it doesn't take athletic ability to drive a car

It may not require exceptional power, speed, strength or cardiovascular fitness, which is why a woman is even able to compete with men, but it does take exceptional hand-eye coordination which is one ot the components of athletic ability IMO.

Mentally demanding? Perhaps. Physically demanding? It's not even close. Compared to football and basketball, race car drivers are as fresh as a daisy at the end of their races. When was the last time a race car driver had to take an IV or oxygen to get through a race. Show me a post-race NASCAR photo like this iconic Kellen Winslow picture:

I would say F1 is tougher. You actually have to turn right and are subjected to greater G-Forces than in a stock car. Furthermore, there is hardly any cautions so you have to be aggressive for the entire race. In NASCAR, you want to save your equipment until the end of the race since there are enough cautions throughout the race where everyone will be bunched up again (racing socialism).

*Based on my video game experience with NASCAR and F1 video games, I can get into a rhythm on oval tracks (most NASCAR courses) but not on road courses (all F1 courses)
