It's so physically demanding that women and the likes of Jimmy Spencer can be competitive.

Stick Lebrons arse in a casket sized enclosure, where odds are he will lose about 20 lbs of water weight due to the temperatures inside said casket. Stick him in there for 4 hours Then let him hold it together at 180 when the arse end of the car gets lose in the 3rd hour of said event. Out of football, basketball, and Nascar, NASCAR is the most physically & mentally demanding.

So just because someone "can't do something" that automatically makes it a sport? I can't suck a dick, does that make dick sucking a sport too?

How do you know you can't do it? Personally, I have no idea if I can do that, and I have no intention of ever finding out if I can.

Meh. Drivers have had to take ivs a ton. Some get severe burns when fire suit doesnt protect feet and still 50 laps to go.some drivers have nearly passed out.
Is the picture cooler? Prob not.

Ya spencer wss fat but thats exception not the rule. Thsts like pointing out nfl o lineman, prince fielder, and tractor traylor and saying look at them. If they can do it its not hard.

Sport? If golf is than nascar is.
Both are incredibly hard to do, and saying just turning left is saying golf is just putt putt courses

It's really hard to consider NASCAR drivers athletes.

Driver = Running Back
Car = Offensive Line

What do I win for accurate sports metaphors?

Constant calculated decision making for such a long period of time. No other sport can say that. Basketball maybe but it's not the same risk on the line of you frick up obviously.

Thoughts?

Over 1 race maybe.

Most mentally exhausting over the course of a season, it's MLB and its not even close.

What about chess? By the way, I've driven on the Autobahn, and I have to admit that driving at 120 m.p.h. for 2 hours is mentally exhausting, and that's with relatively straight roads, so I can imagine what driving at 200 m.p.h. for three hours must feel like.

I've thought hard about if Nascar is a sport or not.

an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature

Does it take skill? Sure
Does it physically take a toll on the drivers? Sure
Is it competitive? Sure

The fact that it requires exceptional hand-eye coordination makes it a sport IMO.
