re: Is Mike Evans a HOFer? First ballot?

The weird thing about Evans is his season to season production is always great but he always seems to get there by having 3-4 monster games a year and is a ghost for a lot of the rest of the season.

As of today, easy no. He would have to keep up his current level of production for another 3-5 years minimum in order for him to get a serious consideration for the HOF.

He has a shot, he just needs to play a long time & compile numbers into the top 10 of some of these counting stats. He’s a good player no doubt but has never been elite or even made All pro

It's a tough call. Granted the game these days is way more passing yard/receiving yard friendly than previous decades, but ten straight 1,0000 yard seasons is nothing to sneeze at (assuming this season he would average it out even with only 16 games).
He will have double digit TD receptions in only half of his ten seasons. Thus far, he has yet to lead the league at the end of the season in receptions, yards or TD catches. He's also never been named All Pro, which in my eyes lends way more credibility to "eliteness" for a season than just a Pro Bowl.
If he retired after this season, I'd say he eventually gets in on the gross numbers and consistency, but is absolutely not a first ballot guy.

That's how I feel about him. I'll admit, I don't watch a lot of his games but I can only think of a handful of times he's actually been a game changer or took over a game. I think he may eventually get in after 3-5 more years of steady production.

As a Niner diehard I argue the same against Frank Gore. He was the epitome of consistency, he's the frickin #3 all-time rusher. But he was really only elite for 1 year (2006). Every other year was pretty much a guaranteed 1,000 yards but that would always put him around 10th in the league, not unlike Evans. Not HOF worthy as much as I would like to see him in

Yep. That would be why he has no All-Pro selections.
He’s never led the league in any of the three main receiving categories. Receivers who are 1st ballot HOFers usually have that under their belt.
Art Monk was one of those consistent guys, but he retired in ‘95 and had to wait 13 years to get inducted. I can see Evans getting in, but not as a first ballot unless he starts putting up those elite seasons as a Top 2 or 3 receiver in the league.

He is the best Lionel, George and Weezy Jefferson had.

Actually a pretty interesting comparison. If he's career lasts as long as Gore's, Evans could end up being 2nd or 3rd all-time in receiving yards. Biggest difference is Evans should finish top 10 in TDs (Gore is 23rd?) if his production stays consistent the next 4-5 years.
Both will most likely get in at some point because of their places in the record books, but the fact that neither was considered one of the best at their position in any given year probably keeps them from getting there before at least 5 years of eligibility.

Mike Evans now has 12 touchdown receptions on the year. Marking the fifth time he has had 12 or more in a season. He's the fifth player in NFL history to do so 5+ times, joining hall of famers Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, and Terrell Owens.

As a Bucs fan, his drops are enough to keep him out.
I appreciate how good he is but he is not HoF good.

If Evans played every week against Lattimore, he'd be out of the league. Latt owns his arse.

No doubt future HOFer

If he and Mayfield can continue to both be in Tampa, I think he can have a monster season maybe next year. Or finish out this one. Tampa needs another great young receiver to take the pressure off him and then he can shed some of the double teams.
Great receiver. But a big bitch on almost every play

Yeah he's in. I don't like him, but he's in.

By stats and a Super Bowl winner….easily

Bump
Two drops tonight on balls that hit him in the hands on significant plays. Stats are not everything. Drew P and Lynn S are in the HOF bc of the big plays they made in the big games , when it counted. If you can’t make those plays , then maybe you shouldn’t be in the HOF. Evans has NEVER been a big game player.
