Is Mike Brown just a really good assistant coach?

Something is just missing. He doesnt command respect from players, nor do they respect him. He is really good at one side of the ball (defense), but atrocious when it comes to offense (thats why Kuester runs the Offense). He doesnt seem like a leader of men.
I get the vibe that they just dont trust or respect him and that the lakers wont win a championshop with him as a coach.

Their offensive sets suck hard. They only play well when inspired and they lack team chemistry. Too many primadonnas and no real on court leader. Kobe is Kobe, but he is not a leader of men. That is why Phil was so successful with that team. They have the bodies, no one to pull it all together. When Duncan/Robinson played together they had much less talent around them but were infinitely a better TEAM.

Yes I agree. Guy knows his shite on defense but I don't see him managing a team.

I saw that and shook my head and chuckled. He just seems like a hard working, video/stats geek that knows the game really well, but may not be able to manage egos and men.
When I see he and kobe talking about strageties, it looks as if he gets and uses all of kobes inputs. They look like peers/equals when I should see the distinction between coach and player.
Outside Coach Pop, his mentor, how many non former NBA players have won a championship as a head coach?
Jackson
Rivers
Carisle
Larry Brown
Rudy T
Riley
KC Jones
Sam Jones
Bill Russell
Paul Westphal
These are the coaches over 20+ of the last NBA championship-- and they all had lengthy careers. There is a trend here. It a players league-- the guys seem to respect the guys that have been there before or know what it takes to win in this league from there point of view

He definitely not that great of a coach. It was apparent when he was with the cavs. It seemed like he constantly didn't create the right matchups. He then rode Lebron to all that success with shitty coaching.
The Lakers are really too talented not to be playing dominant ball. He has Kobe and most talented true PF/C combo in the league. I never understood the hire.

I don't know why the Lakers can't make it work - at least not a lot better they have been.
Properly motivated Bynum is unstoppable. Kobe is still a premiere scorer. Gasol is a damn mystery to me... two years ago I felt like he was on the threshold of taking another step upwards but he's taken several steps backward since last year's postseason (which I guess speaks to the issue being primarily mental)

I thought it was funny a couple of nights ago when TNT does their "inside tracks" feature where they show what the coaches are saying in the huddle.
They showed Doc, Doug Collins, and Scotty Brooks all talking to their respective teams.
And then they went to the Lakers and it was Kobe giving the gameplan and then all you hear from Brown is "yeah" after Kobe finished talking.
