Most players that sign for a school ultimately stay at least 3 years.
Basketball is the one sport where transfers have gone wild. CFB is actually reasonable with respect to this.
Note: Midmajors tend to be exempt from about 80% of the transfer madness. Most of those kids are there for the degree.

Yes and no.
No if the player is treated fairly, and not low-balled in their negotiations.
But fans and players have different motivations.
A star can be a legend by staying in one town. Look at Dirk. He's good enough to be remembered for decades, but because he stayed his entire career in Dallas, he's never going to be overlooked in that city.

In today's day and age how many fans really expect loyalty from pro athletes?
I’d say it’s more the older people because players didn’t move around as much and Free Agency is pretty new
I’d say as we go into the future less fans would expect loyalty

Yes

Players from a city do not attend the major university in that city. Fans bash them.
This is one of the biggest things I've never understood why fans get so upset over. The kid owes absolutely nothing to the major university in the city/state.

I get mad at my school when they lose an in town kid to another school not the kid
Because they did a piss poor job recruiting him

That's ok, I guess. What pisses me off is when, for example, these LSU fans that chastise the kids when they choose an out of state school. That's just flat out wrong and embarrassing.

It’s okay you guess to not be happy with my football programs incompetence?
Which it has been for my entire life

I mean, it's not always incompetence that leads to a player choosing a different school.

Oh I agree.
This was more just a stab at the state of my football program

It's a double edge sword or sorts. A player can show loyalty and become a fan favorite, but business is business and sooner or later that player moves on, either by trade or retirement.
Now, if it's retirement, then they likely remain fan favorites, but being traded, especially them demanding to be traded like has happened to many teams, they can get the fans wrath no matter how they were perceived when playing for the team.

Loyalty should be viewed as "extra credit" for a pro. It isnt required and doest hurt you if you dont have it, but when you do it def gives your legacy a boost

Is it unreasonable for us as fans to expect our favorite players to show "loyalty"?
Yes, because the fans would be the first screaming once their production dips. I never liked Clay Matthews, but he was always a fan favorite for a lot of GB fans. The last few years opinions shifted and there were few fans that wanted him to be resigned this offseason. So like most things, people only want something (loyalty) when it benefits them or the team

The only loyalty they have is to the green

The only loyalty fans have toward players is if they're producing.
What happens to this "loyalty" when the team trades you or cuts you? What happens to this "loyalty" when the player is struggling, needs support but instead is attacked or discarded like trash?
Fans are unreasonable.
