The lack of parity is ridiculous. Hopefully, the expanded playoff will help.
Maybe in the long run
But I can't imagine watching that game and thinking we need to expand the playoffs

The truth is that top notch talent overall is concentrated in Alabama, Georgia and Florida for the most part and schools like Bama, UGA,Clemson and even Auburn have a natural advantage. But, schools like OSU and PSU and even Pitt due to location have almost the same advantage because talent is located in Ohio and Western and Central PA as well.
SEC teams really leverage their resources and money for football more than other leagues. What gets me is Texas as a state. The money at UT, TAMU, etc dwarfs the SEC and the talent and population in Texas is comparable.
Out west it is different....mostly skill players coming out of SoCal. If you want QBs and receivers as well as DBs, California has a lot of them. Big burly bruising defensive players....not so much. Think about it, Caleb Williams, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud....all California kids who initially went east to get noticed.
However if the same 3-4 teams keep winning each year and you have some years where it is SEC vs SEC you will start to see a problem with big monied sponsors not paying as much for TV spots....why pay exorbitant money to essentially focus on one region of the country who is watching while everyone else is watching the NBA or NHL or Netflix / Prime?

Nor should you. To say in a given year that there are four teams truly capable of winning it all is foolish. Look at the average margin of victories from the playoff/national championship games since CFP was implemented. They aren’t typically competitive ballgames.

Every year there are 2-3 NFL light teams and a bunch of college teams. The sport is in a terrible place.

Which this board has fully embraced.

It’ll eventually get to the point where schools will say “why bother to try and compete against these juggernauts?”

I think one of the big issues is the way recruiting is now, along with the transfer portal. In the 2000’s teams like USC and Texas generally got the top talent in their states. Sure, you would occasionally have teams get a top recruit from the other side of the country, but it wasn’t common. Now you have the top SEC teams, OSU, and Clemson taking most of the elite talent from states like California and Texas.

The same handful of schools just continually dominate, eat up every top recruit, rinse & repeat.
It has always been this way. If you want attempts at parity, watch the NFL.

College football was far more entertaining and interesting under the old bowl set up. But big money came in and decimated it. First by putting up too many and then clamoring for a " true" national champion as though viewers and fans were getting jipped under the bowl system.

Done with college football. The 5 star stacking has boiled over to the point where we have a 65-7 final score National Championship. Sad.
College football has been dying fast in popularity. Unless you’re a Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, or UGA fan, there’s no point of watching if you have national championship hopes. Those teams nab all the top talent in the off-season with coaching and money.

I root for Iowa, which is a small state with two P5 programs. They have zero chance of ever competing for a national title. They are basically a small market team, with zero protections in place for small market teams.
There are no salary caps or draft orders. The best keep getting the best players and on and on and on.

Same here. Georgia Tech football has never been more irrelevant in this state than it is now, and Georgia is in a whole other stratosphere.

NFL roster has 53 guys and like 10 practice players. I don’t see why these college programs need 86 dudes with 10+ PWOs.
Public dollars vs private dollars

What schools need to be good for it to not be broken? Because historically it's always been the same few schools winning for the most part.
Alabama
Ohio State
Texas
Georgia
Oklahoma
USC
Miami
Florida
Florida State
Notre Dame
There's obviously a few more, but it's a small percentage of the 130 that play FBS football.
I mean we aren't talking about Iowa State or Arizona State or Wisconsin. College football has always been dominated by a handful of teams and those teams just cycle through.
