Is no one going to talk about this 6.5 year old bump???

No shite. Someone actually created an account on an LSU message board just to throw in his two cents on Brooks Robinson.

When I hit my 40 birthday I joined a soft ball league and played third base. I was in shape. I imagined myself diving, parallel to the ground and catching line drives, like BR. What actually happened was the FIRST 2 pitches to the FIRST 2 batters (20 year olds), were smashed on the ground between my legs before I could even move my glove. Then I remembered in soft ball a third baseball plays pretty far behind the bag and not next to it. Didn't help. So much for imitating Brooks Robinson.

C'mon .930 OPS vs .723?
you can't compare the eras. In 1964 when Robinson won MVP the AL average run were 4 a game vs in 1999 the NL average was 5 a game

Moses Malone

From 1979 to 1987: Moses Malone averaged 25.5 points and 14.1 rebounds per game. Since then? No player has averaged that once in a season.

he's rarely brought up in discussions about the all time greats

Few will argue he's easily a top 3 defensive 3rd baseman and many would say #1, but he can't compare at the plate with Schmidt or Brett. Some would put Chipper Jones and Adrian Beltre right there too along with Boggs. Robinson is a little like Ozzie, a defensive wizard but a .267 lifetime BA and under 300 HRs is not going to get you ahead of Schmidt or Brett (and others).

He's an all time great and played big when it mattered. He's just not the greatest all around 3rd baseman IMO.

Not sure all star games are a good barometer - these were completely voted by the fans and were basically popularity contests.

As far as underrated in the sense it was started in this thread...I think Frank Robinson may be the Robinson that was more underrated by history and recognition as an all time great.
