There's no way Drew Brees only has one All-Pro.

I'm going off the Pro Football Reference page:

LINK

But I'd agree, odd with only one All-Pro selection yet two time AP and Sporting News Offensive Player of the Year.

The only show 1st Team All Pro. Brees has four Second Team All-Pro.

It's also not a good comparison. Drew Brees is light years ahead of Roethlisberger

Brees:
80,358 yards
571 TD-243 INT

Super Bowl champion (XLIV)
Super Bowl MVP (XLIV)
2× NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2008, 2011)
NFL Comeback Player of the Year (2004)
First-team All-Pro (2006)
4× Second-team All-Pro (2008, 2009, 2011, 2018)
13× Pro Bowl (2004, 2006, 2008–2014, 2016–2019)
7× NFL passing yards leader (2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014–2016)
4× NFL passing touchdowns leader (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012)
2× NFL passer rating leader (2009, 2018)
6× NFL completion percentage leader (2009–2011, 2017–2019)

Roethlisberger:
64,088 yards
418 TD- 211 INT

2× Super Bowl champion (XL, XLIII)
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (2004)
6× Pro Bowl (2007, 2011, 2014–2017)
2× NFL passing yards leader (2014, 2018)

This is what I'm getting at. While no one is denying Roethlisberger as a Hall of Fame QB, first ballot should be reserved for the likes of Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, etc.

I'm a Steeler fan, so some definite bias here. If you're going by statistics, he's somewhere between the 5th-8th best QB of all time. How do you leave him off the first ballot?

5th all time passing yards (64,088), 5th all time completions (5,440), 8th all time TDs (418), 6th most games played in NFL history (249), One of 6 QBs to record 15 seasons passing over 3,00 yards, 5th all-time career victories, 2 SuperBowl wins in 3 visits, 3rd in all time QB win percentage, 1st in 500 yards passing games, 4th in 4th quarter comebacks and 5th in game winning drives.

As for no All-Pro designations, he had the misfortune of playing in the same era as multiple generational greats Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. He was still posted 5,000 yard season late in his career in '18 when Mahomes won All Pro. He was always the second-to-fourth best QB in league for a very extended time.

It's an insanely high standard if he's not in on the first ballot.

Um, yeah.

5th in passing yards and 8th in touchdowns.

Won 2 SB's, played in and probably should have won a 3rd. frick you, Mendenhall.

And w/the other stats RolltidePA cited above he should waltz into Canton on the first ballot

Dude played his entire career in an AFC with Brady and Manning.

You can't hold that against him.

Guys who got an All-Pro during Big Ben's career outside of Brady/Peyton/Brees/Rodgers

Granted all these guys were after Peyton Manning retired
Cam Newton (Peyton's last year when he played half a season)
Matt Ryan
Mahomes (2nd year in the league)
Lamar

and Aaron Rodgers was all pro in 2020 and 2021, Big Ben's last two years in the league, and he was drafted the year after Big Ben. And Brees was drafted 4 years before Big Ben, and he's getting all pro's at age 39.

Other guys were able to get all pro's during Brady/Brees/Rodgers run. Granted Big Ben's best year was 2018, led the league in passing, but Mahomes through 50 TDs that year.

2015 - Cam Newton on a SuperBowl team - Ben was injured and only played 11 games that year.

2016 - Matt Ryan on a SuperBowl team - Ben had in season knee surgery week 6 that year. Missed two games from it and wasn't right the rest of the year. He had no escapability. Probably his worst regular season in his career.

2018 - Mahomes - Ben could have won it that year, but Mahomes threw 50 TDs. They were both over 5,000 yards passing. Ben actually had more yards, but less TDs. Also the Steelers weren't very good that year defensively, this was likely the best Ben ever played.

2019- Lamar - Ben played 2 games that year. This was the elbow injury that was pretty much the end of him having a big arm. '20 and '21 he was on fumes and couldn't get the ball downfield anymore from injuries.

So, those years that he could have won it, 3 of the 4 he was injured.

Hall of fame is for the top 1 or 2 players in that position for extended period of time.

If you make all pro 3-4 times you'll eventually get in. All pro, not pro bowl.

First ballot HOF is the top of the top.

Ben made 0 all pro nods.

No he's not a first ballot HOF.

He's hall of very good.

Yes, fits every criteria there is and was a gamer from day 1. Wasn’t a huge Big Ben fan but he was absolutely great. Look at the Steelers since he left and before he got there. He’s a championship level player, someone that changes the course and history of a franchise.

Yeah...I don't get the naysayers. He was the Man in Pittsburgh forever, a fixture, a stalwart, reliable, dependable, unsackable, sturdy, a winner and who's passing ability gets overlooked by fans of indoor shiny Mazda Miata's that throw ducks in the wind vs. an all-weather tank. Ben could play in the 1970s, very few the last 20 years could.

Imo it's fine to say that due to whatever "reasons" (rule changes and increased importance on the position) we've had a "golden generation" at a position group and need to adjust voting accordingly.

If the 5 greatest QBs ever all played in a 20 year stretch you're going to leave 3 of them off? Not in my book. But, I do get your argument about players exceptional to their peers and won't argue a peep that modern QB stats are inflated compared to past QBs

It’s the “winning doesn’t matter crowd” who tend to be on the ignorant side of the fan spectrum. But Ben also had the numbers so they try to compare him to someone like Rivers. Well Rivers was on a bunch of loaded teams and couldn’t win a championship so that’s out as well. Ben was also part of a great Super Bowl against another HOFer with a dramatic ending. I don’t see any argument against him.

Not being elite is a pretty massive criteria shortcoming

Unless we're expanding the definition of "elite" to the best 7-8, he ain't in that peer group

lol I’m sure you’ve got some specifically tailored version of elite created for one purpose.

This is #1-4. It's great he had some big yardage seasons as a function of high passing volume. He starts #5 at best
