$7million per year LINK

His first season as the Hawkeye's head coach was 1999.

30 years of Kirk

And honestly it won’t get much better. He has consistently built them into a winning season team. Every now and then they make a run. You ain’t gonna get much better than that.

Iowa won’t get much better than him. It’s Iowa for crying out loud. He’s done a decent job though.

Assuming Kirk actually coaches out the whole contract, Iowa will have only had 2 head coaches from 1979-2029

In today's world, that's pretty crazy

They know they have the best they can do. Good for him getting 100M from them.

He was also an assistant at Iowa for 9 years ('81-89).

39 years in the state pension plan, and you finish your career as the state highest paid employee.

One could say they 'punted' on making a decision on their coach of the future

I really thought he might retire in the next 2 or 3 years, but hey, if he feels good and wants to keep going, good for him.

It's too bad TCU didn't want to stick by Patterson the same way.

A quote from the Iowa 247 board;
quote:

Love this move! I feel like Kirk and the staff are really just hitting their stride recruiting, could see years of top 25 classes coming.

Hitting his stride? He's been there for decades.

Just reaaaallllllllyyyyyyyy slow out of the gate I guess.

What's amazing is that he's in Iowa City, the last place on Earth anyone wants to live.

Not only is he winning consistently, every now and then he gets to the Rose Bowl and puts tons of guys into the NFL. Very impressive no matter how you look at it.

Edit: well, he's only been to one Rose. I should have said BCS or major bowl. Still, pretty good considering where he's at.

He’s coaching a breadbasket team to 10 wins a season. If Iowa doesn’t pay him $7 million, Nebraska will.

Some boosters must have really believed that #2 ranking they had for a week or two.

It's that the most influential boosters are old enough to remember Iowa before Hayden Fry, and they're scared that if they lose Ferentz (Fry's protege) that they'll go back to the 60s, 70s era Iowa

I think it's refreshing that Iowa and Ferentz have been together so long when you have coaches that jump around from job to job and schools that dump coaches for going 6-6. Iowa is a team that's always competitive, that beats a Big 10 blue blood about once a season and goes to a NY6 bowl every couple of years -- and that's OK! People used to be thrilled with that kind of consistency in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

He's made a killing off them giving him extensions and perks(use of State Plane).

He has to have the same agent as the rest of the CFB club. They get extension after extension.
