Bret Bielema already tried this

Pretty amazing so many here forget this. He took a job with New England making only $125,000 which was way below market value and Arkansas (specifically the Razorback Foundation) sued him saying he wasn't in good faith honoring hit buyout. He counter sued and they ultimately settled with Arkansas paying him $3.5 million of the $7.4 million he was owed at that point.

You his agent? I doubt you’ve read his entire contract.

Are you retarded? You do realize that these provisions are pretty standard across the industry, right?

Anyway, here is the relevant language from his contract:

quote:

Once terminated, Coach is obligated “to diligently search for and make a good faith effort to obtain another position appropriate for his skill set (i.e., coaching, scouting and broadcasting only) and to provide the university upon request with evidence that he is seeking such employment.” He is also required “to make good faith efforts to obtain the maximum reasonable salary”.

There’s no provision about turning down an offer. You can’t force someone to take a job.

Every buyout I’ve ever seen requires the coach to continue to seek employment. It’s the reason Chad Morris had to leave Allen HS. Arkansas was going to sue him.

Nothing interesting about that. This standard language in coaching contracts, it would be outside the norm if it said anything different.

this really isnt the gotcha that psu and people think.

he could take a job for 100K, just to stick it to PSU for the difference.

If your one of the sports network, you have a cheap option who won't care, he getting 8 mil per, w/o breaking your bank

No he couldn’t. They’d sue him for that.

so it’s essentially a nothing clause.

Arkansas sued Bielema over being Belichick's personal assistant and he had to settle for a reduced payout.

Would be malpractice on Woodward's part if he didn't

That’s a different scenario though. That was because he took a job for below-market rates.

You and your sock puppet are talking out of both sides of your mouth in this thread and it’s hilarious you think no one will notice.

He should be able to do the David Shaw strategy of taking NFL interviews in order to satisfy his requirement and satisfy the NFL team's requirement with the Rooney Rule. It's a win/win arrangement.

show me where in his contract, it says he cannot? it says he has to look for a job, does not say how much or who with.

I provided a quote earlier. Here you go again.

quote:

It would stupid to try what you’re suggesting. You would get sued, and it wouldn’t end up the way that you think it would.

Every contract ever stipulates you have to act in good faith

You can count the numbers of coaches who don’t have the same deal on one hand and still have fingers left.

Gus Malzahn was one that didn't. Had to pay half the remaining 75% of his contract (a little over $10MM) within 30 days. The other half was to be paid annually in 4 installments. So he was making almost $3MM/yr from Auburn on top of his UCF salary. His last payment was made in early 2024.
