Independence Bowl has a new sponsor
We really need to get rid of these superfluous bowls

That bowl has been around since 1976.....

Longer than the bowl LSU played in last year

Why does it bother you guy that some team plays a bowl game on Dec 22? Just don't watch it. For the schools in the game, their fan-bases are excited, and the team gets extra 8 weeks of practice to prepare for next year. Why is it so painful for you to have some game on that you're not watching?

You guys are so fricking wrong on this. Just shut up. Calling it a participation trophy? WTF is wrong with you

What kind of man bitches about MORE football? I'd like 10 more bowl games if they could find sponsors.

A good bit of the bowl games this past season sucked arse. I get that it's more football. But, more isn't necessarily a good thing in this situation.

This everyone has to have a participation trophy train of thought is what I hate.

except that isnt what the minor bowls are for.

they make TV stations (mostly ESPN) money and they give teams more chance to practice and develop their players.

It doesn't. But it's superfluous.

Not for the majority of these bowls, no.

I agree that there weren't a lot of good games this year, but that's an anomaly, not the norm.

I'd still rather watch any kind of FBS football than not watch it.

Snow bowl was one of the best bowl games I've seen.

Hope the new sponsorship is everything it's quacked up to be.

And Alabama beating the piss out of Chattanooga is a quality matchup? LSU beating Eastern Southern Barber's College by 10 is a quality game?

Yup. A lot of these guys will never step on a football field again. Let them enjoy one more game in a place they may never get to visit again. Hell some of these players grew up in poverty. Some of them go to programs that are lucky to make a bowl every 5-10 years or so. Let them have their own victory.

What harm comes to you because Bowling Green plays Western Kentucky in the Something.com Corn Bowl 4 days before Christmas?

The Indy Bowl may indeed be "superfluous", but it will always hold a special place in my life. Because of it, I got to shake hands with Ronald Reagan, General Omar Bradley (America's last 5 star general), and (my favorite) John Wayne. Each won the General Omar Bradley Spirit of Independence award during the bowl's early days.

Eta: yes, General Bradley won the first award - named after himself
