I doubt it will be the entirety of either conference, if you are creating a Super League would you really invite Rutgers, Northwestern or Vanderbilt? Do you really want to carry their dead weight when there would assuredly be revenue sharing?

In the next twenty years, I think you will see teams associated with the schools, paying for the rights, but ultimately not part of the universities.
Then what happens when someone has the licensing rights and some other rich dude that wants a team comes in and offers a higher licensing fee? Could be a whole new team and owner taking the school’s name every couple of years

That would be truly wild and I think that’s actually a distinct possibility in my lifetime. I feel like college football of the last 100 years is being stolen from us. Something people enjoyed generally the same for generations and was great is now eroding away quickly

Eventually the 30-40 schools that actually drive the revenue will go form their own entity and cut the ncaa and all the smaller schools out.

-player contracts
-players not required to attend class/be enrolled
-private equity involved with athletic departments
These will all inevitably happen sadly.

P4 dissolves and separates from rest of CFP but only take the “money” schools to form a 30 team elite division
New division is not administered by NCAA but a new. Sanctioning body lead by ADs instead of university presidents

what is the next big domino to fall in terms of college sports?
I think the next big crazy thing we see, is a player transfer to a new team during the season (or maybe before the playoffs). It'll go to a judge who will rule the player immediately eligible to play, or at least give an injunction allowing the player to play for his new team.

Players transferring during the game. Whoever is in the lead gets the best players.

Is a student able to unenroll at say…ULM in October and immediately be able to get into a full schedule of classes at LA Tech the following week?

quote:probably not. but, when the student sues the NCAA/University for some ridiculuous reasoning about their eligibility status, all bets are off. The judicial system has already shown it will bend over backwards to support the athletes.

Then frick them. Tell them to form a minor league.
If you aren’t enrolled at a student at the school, then you shouldn’t be allowed to play ball with their name on your jersey.

I'm pretty sure syracluse won't make the cut amongst the top 30-40 schools in football.
And before you say they're in New York (which is really a professional sports state), they're more a part of Canada than the big Apple. Rutgers in the big 10 already has NYC covered.

Private Equity firms ‘buying’ teams. It’s coming.

This really is the worst part of all this. Unless the new college football basically sets the majority/full team up to sustain themselves on their earnings until retirement, this will be a major backslide for most athletes. Athletes won’t attend class when their peers don’t need to and then disadvantage themselves in terms of practice/working out/etc… they could be doing instead to get ahead physically.
Then you’ll have the guys who won’t cut the NFL and not only will they not have a future in football, but now they’ll have no degree to fall back on. They’ll only have whatever opportunities come from their time at the school (connections) or from their NIL money.
At that point, why is this even college football anymore?

Impending disaster. The percentage of FBS, and even P4 players, that actually make it to the NFL to receive even just three years of pro pay is extremely low. And these guys who transfer 2 and 3 times probably have an even smaller chance.

I don't think the Group of Five is sustainable. Look at ULL, ULM, and even Tulane and Rice and the rest of the Sun Belt and MAC schools. All those schools lose money on sports and lose money on football. When so many people are saying "you don't need to go to college, enter the trades" it will disproportionally impact schools like ULL and ULM.
I think the top 50 or 60 schools in the SEC, B1G, ACC and Big 12, ND and a few other schools form a new Division 1A. The Sun Belt and MAC schools, et al. and the top FCS schools form a new Division 1-AA with a playoffs. Appy State and Eastern Michigan cannot afford to keep losing so much money.
I also think a new Southern Ivy conference may form with Tulane, Rice, William and Mary, VMI, The Citadel and a few other schools.

Because people are easily deluded.

I imagine about 80% or more of current college fans feel the same way.
“College” football will die like the flying wedge if the PTB let that happen.
I would much rather watch a group of Auburn STUDENTS play a group of Alabama STUDENTS in the Iron Bowl than watch a group of mercenaries that are supposed to represent both schools.

Agree with this.
But you’re going to have a bunch of Wally World fans who will still follow and cheer when some team of random dudes who happen to sport the jersey of their favorite college wins a game.
