I had a parent of a player that went there tell me a story one time. The boy was a huge lineman and IMG wanted him. The parents said ok we will send him. When IMG told them the ridiculous cost the parents said we can’t afford that. IMG then let the boy go for free.

The folks at IMG do not seem like great negotiators.

“That’ll be 77k”
“Can’t afford that much”
“Damn. Okay free then”

Also, it’s a tennis and golf academy.

And soccer. It used to be where the the U-17 national team players lived unless they were already pros: Oguchi Onyewu, DeMarcus Beasley, Kyle Beckerman, Landon Donovan, et al, all lived there at least 1 year. They closed the national team part in 2017 though there's still soccer players who go there.

That operation is so dirty that I'm happy when I see other teams refuse to play them. How are they allowed to recruit nationwide and give out scholarships? This is a prime example of the corruption that goes on in high schools athletics. Players that go there should automatically be ruled ineligible to play NCAA sports because they are receiving monetary benefits - $77k in free tuition, not to mention the other crap they receive that no one knows about!

Tuition is deferred to when they reach the pros, or Alabama boosters foot the bill.

Parents that allow their kids to be recruited to IMG and leave their high schools are extremely weak minded.

That tuition is insane.

Brother in law played for the Irish national team and for Birmingham. A few years after he retired he came over and taught football (soccer) at IMG Academy. He was making over $230K + some nice benefits. Only doing it so the family could live in Florida. Did not need the money.

Heard some stories about people putting their kids at IMG for different sports where it was obvious they would never even start in high school because parents thought coaching would get them to the next level. For a lot of kids at that school tuition of $77K is nothing at all. Nothing.

Part of the deal with coaching at IMG is you are on call basically all the time. Coaches go over to the airport and meet parents that come in on private jet, they go to dinner with the parents, etc... Coaches are expected to entertain the parents and keep that money rolling in.

That's insane. Bishop Gorman in Vegas is only about 10k a year.

I went to a private high school that was $5,000 a year which was on par for private schools.

Now it's $55,000 a year for borders.

That's more than Harvard.

For a College Prep school. World has gone insane. There are more than 50 high schools in the US that charge over $40,000 a year. They are charging what prestigious private Colleges cost...for a fricking H.S. diploma.

My friend is an athletic trainer at IMG.

As others have said, it’s really not a HS. It’s a top notch training facility for a variety of sports. They’ve had tons of professional athletes train there during their offseasons.

I too have no idea how they get away with being labeled a “high school”

$77k for high school isn't even ridiculous when compared to $74k for FIFTH GRADE!

HOLY shite.

I believe it started out as a tennis academy and still makes a lot of their money from tennis and maybe golf. Have a buddy that was a physical therapist there for a little while when he was in college

There’s no way anyone other than the kids that are total scrubs have their parents pay the full 77k per yr. I’d guess it’s probably like a lot of prestigious, small provate colleges where everyone that gets in honestly gets at least some financial aid, regardless of economic situation. Then after that everyone that’s filthy rich can have their parents pay their way into the school.

Also they let pretty much anyone operate a private school in Florida which isn’t that surprising considering this is the most crooked state in America. I think Deion Sanders had some super poorly run/shady football factory here for a while that was under a ton of scrutiny.

They do baseball, academics, etc. It just isn't football. I believed it is modeled off of futball academy's in Europe. It is basically a boarding school.

You guys might remember Iowa RB Brandon Wegher. Had some issues at Iowa and ended up at NAIA Morningside College in Iowa. From there he played with the Jacksonville Jaguars for a spell.

He has a younger brother, Jack, who was too good to play at the local high school (dripping sarcasm), which is a perrenial power in Iowa and has sent several kids to D1, including his older brother. Jack went to IMG and from there got a ride to Purdue.

Things didn't work out for him at Purdue so he transferred to FCS Northern Iowa. Did he pay $77k at IMG, not sure, his dad has money but that is an awful lot. Funny part is he ended up right where he should have at UNI and could have done that, or more, without dropping that dime to go to IMG.

In the end, money doesn't matter, you either got it and can play or you don't.

No idea why anyone is getting butthurt over it. And lol at anyone saying they wouldn't let their kids go there if they were offered. Most those guys can either play for their po-dunk high schools, po-dunk training facilities, and po-dunk coaching...OR they get to train at top notch facilities, with good coaches, and most importantly the best players around both their age and pro's.

HS education to get to college is very easy to teach, its not like they have to teach honors there.

As said, their record really doesn't matter. Games are just for fun basically, they can't win championships or make playoffs.
