Been moving this way for a while and it sucks.
I hate this for not only CFB but also college sports in general.
I used to love the cross-conference MBB matchups, storied schools fighting in lower tier sports for the conference championships and pumping out the best Olympic sports athletes in the world.

Much of that is disappearing.

Even if some schools are able to hold onto loose non-football conference affiliations, it will never be the same.

Why does it suck to get rid of terrible schools? For everything positive having 100+ schools has there are many negatives.

International soccer is complicated because of all the leagues, but I’d love a super college league with 60 or so teams where the bottom handful of teams are relegated down and the next division moves some up. I have no idea how that would be possible with multiple sports and scheduling.

100 teams in any league is just ridiculous at that level. For one, it would promote having better overall talent on fewer teams and therefore a better product.

They should just set up a couple different levels of leagues and have relegation up and down like European soccer. Would make it super interesting.

Except that’s not how any of this works. Everything is revolved around money and popularity, you want to cater to the small teams no one cares about.

Rivalries and traditions are what have historically made college football great. When rivalries and traditions get whittled away, you're left with a sterile, corporate feeling product that is nothing more than an extremely watered down NFL.

The next big step after the SEC and Big 10 finish expanding is cutting the dead weight. One or both of the conferences will drop someone in the next decade if this all continues. I don’t think the Big 10 or SEC plan on staying at 16-20+ teams forever

If teams can be cut against their will, why would those teams ever agree to expand the conference? Then if we give the ability to cut said teams, the also-rans of the SEC could gang up on Bama if they wanted

Also for every game Ohio State wins, someone has to lose one

Nah, that’s just what crappy teams say.

Winning, good teams, big match ups, and school spirit is what college football is about. If UF-LSU face each other with losing records and both outside of the top 25 that’s a lot less exciting for fans than LSU- ND for top ranked teams.

No one likes to admit that, but it’s the truth. Traditions matter because it usually brings better match ups. That’s all.

Exactly.

A huge state school with plenty of history and wealthy alumni and BIG TV money but gets outspent by Northwestern on athletic facilities and coaches.

Because every once in a while someone like Illinois, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, etc will have a great team and it’s pretty good for the sport tbh

Of course most of the time big schools with all the resources are going to wreck shite but upsets and Cinderella stories have always been part of what makes college sports fun and unique

If you haven’t noticed, mizzou is feasting on the new era of college sports. Top 10ish in NIL, t20 tv market. Now we’re starting to win like a national football program. If there is a new super league, I bet you mizzou is high on the list to be called on. 10 years ago, you may have been correct

Keep on dreaming bro. Mizzou ain't in, and is not getting in that club. The quicker you accept it the easier it will be for you.

yall will never be big boys in college football

This board may hate the idea but I don't think LSU survives the second round of separation there just aren't the corporate dollars in Louisiana It's simply not a big enough market

And wait till the Chiefs and Royals move to Kansas
