If you're drafting for the rest of their career, I'd take Davis. If this is like a regular draft with the chance of the guy leaving then I'd take Lebron.

There is more to professional sports than just talent on the floor. Owners want to make money, period. The best way to make money is win, which is why AD is even considered an option, but Lebron James has easily another 5 years of winning left in him. The reason James is unquestionably no.1, is because he's the biggest superstar on the planet, aside from maybe Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo.

The thing with AD is that you won't get 10 years out of him. The guy stays hurt. Bigs that stay hurt are not great long term solutions. On that aspect, Lebron is not only better but less injury prone

Where do you think Cleveland ranks among NBA franchise value w Lebron?

The market is going to dictate making money, not the player. The Lakers and Knicks are shite teams and yet they print money

The guy hasn't played 70 games in any season at this point. Always different types of injuries. Some people just cant stay healthy

guy is a great talent but you have to look at health as a big factor

Yeah, people don't fill up NBA arenas to watch Anthony Davis play. The opposite holds true for LeBron James. Simple. Not a knock on Davis because he is a terrific player, but he does not exude the 'transcendent' term that James does. Will that change? Sure, I suppose time will tell.

That being said, I would probably take Anthony Davis at the moment. He is 22 years old and already one of the top NBA players in the game.

Still don't think he is must-see TV for the casual fan, though. James is.

What's to say AD wouldn't leave after 5 years? I mean he clearly is going to leave the Pels for The Lakers when his current contract is up so why wouldn't he in your fictional draft?

He will though.

I'm drafting for the present and the future. Lebron is still the best player, no one is saying otherwise.

It's kind of like drafting Luck over Aaron Rodgers. Luck will be the face of the NFL, Davis will be the face of the NBA.

Again, the reasoning is age. AD is 22. Lebron is going to be 31
lbj has a late Dec birthday. AD is going to be 23 eventually, too. But whatever helps you sleep at night.....

You must not watch basketball to know the hype with him is huge. He has reached super star status. The Pels will be all over national tv next season quite a bit, I guarantee it.

i have no problem taking Davis at #1 because of his age and the scarcity of a dominant big man, but this isn't true. as a few others have stated he doesn't have the star power of other guys, and nobody outside of new orleans is particularly interested in watching the pelicans play.

Some guys would take Davis because he has more longevity than lebron, yet still aknowledge Lebron will be the guy getting you to the title for the next five years

So is the question then title with Davis 6-10 years from now, or title with Lebron in the next 5?

Seems are trading the chance to win now for the chance to leave when lebron is gone

I've already said, in this thread, that if I'm a GM I would strongly lean towards Lebron because I need to keep my job and I'm winning titles right now.

I understand both arguments though.

No. Lebron is no guarantee to get you there either and as each year passes the chances of him doing it go down.

You are assuming Lebron is going to win you a title. We are talking about evening the playing field. No Kyrie, no Love (for most of the year), no close to prime Wade, no Bosh, no guarantee to be playing in a weaker conference. He isn't a sure thing, which is why I would rather go with the 22 year old all-nba first team guy who isn't close to being as good as he is going to be.
