If MLB stupidly expands, they must go to relegation system

I'm staunchly against expansion for many reasons. Namely we already have far too many non competiive teams and half full or less ballparks. It also spreads the talent far too thin. I have a bad feeling Manfred will push for adding 2 more teams.
The only answer if that happens is a relegation system. Make the 6 or 8 worst record teams each year be relegated. They can play each other, Host AAA or unaffiliated teams, international games etc... But they can't play MLB games. They have to earn their way back in.
Of course this will also never happen because MLB TV money and revenue sharing keeps these bad teams afloat. But I would be happily supportive of relegation if they expand

Starting staffs are already stretched so thin that teams invented ways to bullpen games yet manfred wants to add. It’s crazy

I think that is how European soccer does it.

Too many legal hurdles. An owner would have his panties in a wad if he got relegated and lost what could be millions in ticket revenue

Not to mention, a team full of AAA guys would immediately get relegated after promotion.

They do relegate teams in soccer, but I don't see it ever as a possibility for major american sports. It'd would really cripple the teams because fan support would essentially go down to zero because nobody wants to go watch their reds play the round rock express. Personally I think they just need to move teams that don't get much fan support over the course of multiple years. Tampa and miami don't deserve teams with their attendance. Miami is averaging less than 10000 people a game this year.

MLB should do what the NHL did with Las Vegas and demand a certain number of deposits for season tickets before awarding a city a team. It should be a minimum of 20,000 season tickets sold. If none of the cities can meet that quota, they should not expand.

Not sure about anyone else but this is true at least for Texas.
The Rangers have used an opener like 20 times this year and had to use Jesse Chavez as a starter last night.
We have like 3 1/2 guys that are actually rotation worthy and both guys we’ve tried to call up have gotten obliterated in starts.
And this is a team with a winning record. I can’t imagine what some of the bottom feeders are running out there.

And how exactly would that happen?

The Orioles have had to use 13 pitchers for most of the year because their fourth and fifth starters can't go more than three innings without giving up a shite ton of runs. The pitching in Major League Baseball right now is in absolute dire shape.

There is no logistical way for this to work with the minor league system, TV deals, stadium deals, etc.
You'd basically have to create an entire other second league that would be "Quad A" or something with the hopes of playing up to MLB. That would have to exist independently of the current minor league system since those players are all tied to MLB teamms. And that new league would need minor league teams as well for their farm system.
Then what happens when Baltimore, Detroit, Kansas City, and Miami get sent down, but 4 teams like Portland, Las Vegas, Vancouver, and Monterrey get bumped up? Now you have a geographic clusterfrick trying to realign divisions.
It would be fun in theory, but would require a near total overhaul of the sport's organization.

Would be really cool but literally no chance this is even considered

A) the 2010’s are the most highly-attended decade ever
B) relegation
B) relegation

I’m all in favor of relegation. I want to see the concept spread.
I don’t see how people think it won’t succeed in American sports. The USA is the most competitive sports culture in the world. Nothing is more competitive or dramatic than survival of the fittest.
You are a perennial bottom-dweller? Then you don’t need to be in the big division. frick you. You fold? Tough shite. You’re probably doing your fans a favor.
Maybe that would make some people wake up and start running their teams right. Sure. It would take some years to adjust and have everything work itself out, but it would. The end result would be the best teams playing the best more often... with high stakes consequences. Count me in on that.

Don’t like expansion, too many teams with terrible attendance already. Instead, they should just relocate a couple of the teams with lower at attendance. Miami averaged less than 10k fans per game. Tampa Bay around 14k.

Miami has a stadium that was funded primarily by taxpayer money. Plus they signed a 35 year lease back in 2008. The Marlins and MLB would get sued to oblivion if they tried to relocate the team and they would lose.

I thought one team based in Orlando would’ve been better than two in TB and MIA. A stadium near Disney, do the theme parks, catch a ball game, etc. They would have at least gotten 10k fans a game like the Marlins are getting now.
