I watched about ten minutes of an NBA game last night.

Let me preface this by saying I am a casual fan at best and this was the first bubble game I watched.

I normally will watch the Pels about once a week and the occasional playoff matchup but had not a chance to see the Pels post pandemic.

It was odd to the point of almost being unwatchable without the fans. The play seemed less than usual somehow but that might be because there was no crowd. The virtual folks in the stands made it stranger.

I did not get the same feel when watching the European soccer matches. This is perhaps because the fans are not normally as close as an NBA game. I hope that NFL and college games have closer to that feel than the NBA game I watched.

Agreed it feels like watching a scrimmage.

The NHL has done it well. Pipe in realistic crowd noises. Show fans occasionally on big screen. But focus on the ice and make the viewer forget no one is there.

Disagree.

Under the circumstances they did a great job of taking the awkwardness out of empty arenas.

There have been a few beatdowns in the playoffs which has drained what little atmosphere exists in there, but there have also been some good intense games where if not for the court and the virtual fans I almost forget about the bubble. It helps if its a close game and you’ve got an announcer like Kevin Harlan or Breen going off.

The NBA has infinity more energy than the echoing empty football stadiums will have.

A lot of people on here love to complain about the piped in crowd noise but it really is a nice touch if done well

Soccer has the same advantage of almost constant action. Regular games there is seldom a chance to even see a crowd shot. That may be a problem with football.

Says a lot about the NBA. Can’t watch it unless there are fans in the seats.

I'm not a big NBA or MLB fan, but I watched some highlights the other night of an Astros game and the fake fans behind home plate just look ridiculous. The first thing I though of was the midway games where you throw a baseball and knock out the people but they pop back up.

Of course, it's phony and not really intended to not look phony, but it looks borderline stupid.

It is possible that I might have gotten use to it had I watched longer.

Even with a crowd there is nothing with less energy than a mid-season NBA game.

It feels like summer camps with a hint of AAU.

The media will continue to try and pump it up but the ratings will not lie.

I am a huge NBA fan. That said, it's hard to get invested when so many of the games are just absolute blowouts.

The Clippers/Mavs and Lakers/Blazers are the only games that have really kept my interest from start to finish. When I sit to watch the other games it becomes more obvious they are in an empty gym.

I think that the second and third rounds will be more competitive.

Think NBA has done it best (and for the record is NBA is not my favorite pro sport to watch). Digitally adding fans as if in a zoom meeting was a nice touch. The crowd noise they play tends to fit the circumstance on the court. Crowd noise during real games is controlled as well with faders on the mic. MLB has done well with it too only it’s nice to hear the players going off and announcers having to apologize for all the f bombs on live tv. The cardboard cutouts have been impressive. A mariners fan and pretty impressed how much they have filled that stadium with cut outs.

I'm not a huge baseball fan and have been catching some of the Rangers games when they are on and the huge cutout people figures behind home plate are fricking silly at best.

All of them have faces the size of a basketball or larger.

I even saw one of Jimi Hendrix a couple days ago.
