They had a chance to get Reuben Bain and passed. Can you imagine having Jared Verse AND Reuben Bain rushing the passer? I think they missed out on a big opportunity. So did the other teams that passed on Bain.

You’ll be apologizing when Ty Simpson takes Stafford’s job from him next year (probably by week 8).

Caused an unnecessary distraction during their closing window to win a Super Bowl.

McVay certainly didn’t make the pick

Their first two picks were a back up QB and a back up TE to go with the other 3 TE's they have including the one they drafted in the 2nd last year. Absolute stunning behavior from a team that was pretty solid last season.

There is a lot of talk that the saints planned to take Patrick Mahomes before the chiefs made a trade to jump ahead and take Mahomes.

Had the Saints taken Mahomes in 2017 it would have been blasted as wasting the last few years of the Brees window.

It would then be hailed as the greatest draft pick in Saints history.

I think the Rams took a look at the board from their spot and didn't think anyone on it would get them from a playoff loss to a Super Bowl win, so they took at shot at the future.

The Rams are already young and deep at LB / DE. Bain would have been a depth pick.

Mahomes was also a significantly better prospect coming out of college than Simpson

The Rams have been one of the most steady and well run organizations since McVay’s hiring. I think they’ll be fine

That's not happening.

What could happen is Stafford could get injured, or retire soon. If Simpson can play, the Rams would have eliminated a couple years of down seasons at minimum.

And Stafford is also significantly better at this point in his career than Alex Smith.

It just made no sense.

Yep. Ty Simpson would be a 3rd rounder next year. They took a guy that won’t help them this year with a team that has a 1 year window before losing lot of their key guys due to the cap

They have 2 stud pass rushers already. Bain wouldn’t have played a whole lot. Maybe they take the USC receiver but he would’ve been a 3 at best with Adams and Puka already there. They solved their DB problem via getting the guy from KC and there weren’t many first round corners this year anyway. Maybe Bain might make sense when big contracts start coming for their young defensive players and they could let one go. I don’t really think Ty Simpson is the answer after stafford hangs it up but who knows.

What?

Simpson might be the least distracting QB pick they could have ever made. He’ll throw in guys from the last 10 drafts.

Simpson will have no issue sitting and learning. And he’s going to grind REALLY hard at all the “extra” shite and Stafford will probably value him point of view when they’re working on shite.

Ty - “Hey Matt - have you ever thought to look the safety off on cover 2 here to open up the backside route?”

Matt - “ I’ve attempted more NFL passes than you’ve had completed yards in your entire life, shut the frick up and put more milk in my iced latte next time shite bird”

He definitely hit the lottery being in a crap draft class and being drafted way too high by a team to hold a clipboard and collect 1st Round money.

Lofl

I didn’t mean Ty can teach him anything.

Just that Ty will be locked in to that shite and be curious and ask good questions and will make the extra shite like film study more valuable, imo.

The opposite of a distraction.

The best QB Class is always "next year".

Nothing to say people don't fall off and it's a woeful draft next year.

They also get the 5th year so have a contract similar to taking someone in the 2nd next year.

It may work out with Simpson there, but I think their best options at that pick were Lemon or Freeling. More of a need, can't hate them for trying to "outbid" the QB-needy Cardinals but could have traded back and still gotten Simpson too.
