He did all of it with the two line pass rule. That’s what makes it insane

He also did it against a bunch of relatively unathletic defense and center men.

Gretzky led the league in points for half of his career as he won the Art Ross Trophy 10X...Gordie Howe won it 6 (he's 2nd) and Jagr won it 5.

Gretzky had 3 consecutive 200 point seasons.

Of the Top 10 most points in one season, Gretzky occupies 8 of them.

Only Lemieux is in there twice.

Speaking of Lemieux, he came in 2nd place to Gretzky in 1986 as the seasons point leader with 141.

Gretzky beat him by just his assists alone with 163 while recording 52 goals for 215 points.

Actually, the last 5/6 years of his career hockey was evolving to a really physical defensive league of thugs and grinders. See Dallas Stars of that era that was wrestling on ice . It was wide open when he started but not when he finished in 99. His game is actually more attuned to now than the mid to late 90s.

Dominik Hasek was just as great as Gretzky. He just started in the NHL late and then a bad injury in 06 that robbed him of another Gold Medal and a Stanley Cup

The game changed too much to allow for it.

Gretzky having bonafide enforcers was luxury players today don’t really have. Sidney Crosby has taken a beating because of that. With that said enforcers were a luxury but Gretzky was an insane talent like we may never see again.

I'd be more impressed if you remembered watching Wayne Gretzky play when you were older

Jack Nicklaus says WTF are you talking about?
Jack had a great career, he never dominated golf like Tiger did from 2000-2010

But its hard to compare individuals to team sports. Wayne dominated a team sport more than anyone in history

Gretzky is tGOAT of GOATs. There was a thread a couple of years ago on Gretzky’s records. I think Baloo posted Gretzky’s all time records that will never be touched. He owns like 10 or 15 all time records that are like the one D’maggio 56 game hitting streak. Records that will never be touched. It’s silly

I don’t have the slightest clue how hockey points work, but this is one of the most insane things I’ve ever heard.

1 point for a goal
1 point for an assist
