From picking the winner of the game he is calling, but him and every "analyst" can clamor all day for the teams ESPN wants in the BCS Champ, that they are broadcasting.

Never thought of that. Pretty good point.

I don't know why they feign any kind of journalistic integrity with this and blatantly have none everywhere else. But I listen to Petros and Money a lot, and when Petros Papadakis is doing a game, he doesn't pick a winner for it either.

They are essentially doing the exact same thing. Herbie and ESPN recuse themselves so as not to appear biased in a game they are broadcasting, but turn around and do it in a game they are set to broadcast in a month.

It's bullshite that they are pushing so hard for a rematch just because they know it'll draw the best rating and share.

Well, LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in the country.

Yea it is blatantly obvious now. This is the problem with ESPN/ABC/Disney and 24 hour sports programming also broadcasting the game.

Fox didn't have that luxury, really.

I hear ya, man. E-mail him. I was a journalism major for awhile and e-mailed an ESPN talking head and he said basically everyone is on ESPN to be a personality, not so much effectively talk about sports.

Sure, but it's not consistent with what they have said in the past regarding rematches in the title game, a team having to win their own conference to get in the national title, etc.

Yea it's almost as if ESPN is trying to dip their hand into the cookie jar that CBS got from them in the regular season game since they know CBS gets the 2012 game as well.

Their BCS countdown commercial has a snipit of Robert Smith saying "there is a clear separation with Bama from the rest of the country".

Just let Kirk pick in the game he's calling. Because they aren't operating with that same mantra anywhere else.

I'm just glad Herb and the crew decided they wanted LSU at the top of the standings for their tough road schedule at the beginning of the year. All I heard from them the week before the bcs standing were out was how it didn't matter who the best was, LSU has earned the right to be #1 for the schedule they had played.

The fact that Craig James is still employed there is a sign that they don't even feign any sort of integrity...

ESPN does not have journalistic integrity because they aren't actual news. They also don't really claim to be a news source. They seem to be open about their role in sports as the source of entertainment.

But to the point of their pushing for a rematch: They weren't when OSU, Oklahoma, Stanford and Oregon had one (or zero) loss.

It's a shame that college football announcing has devolved to the level of homerism, which has plagued college basketball years for many years -- i.e. the Al McGuire's and Billy Packer's fellating Jordan and all things ACC and "Dick" Vitale slobbing "the General" Robert Montgomery Knight's knob despite the latter being a huge arse. At least football announcers had a modicum of impartiality but now promote their own agendas. Which is why I now ignore them.

They're easily ignored.

I have a difficult time understanding why people let entertainers annoy them.

and seems the norm in any facet of life for the commentators and audience to want someone to knockoff the current king of the mountain... well, everyone except the current king and his fans.

Enjoy it...

Of all of ESPN's major lapses of editorial judgment and journalistic integrity, having Herbstreit predict the winner of a game he is going to call doesn't even rate. Who cares?

Exactly. I never have understood why Herbie doesn't get to pick a winner just because he's providing color analysis. If he was refereeing I could understand. And it's often painfully obvious which team Musburger wants to win in the booth.
