In Smith's opinion, he says the game decisions mirrored society today and the problems each individual faces

It was probably the billionaire owner and executives that made the decision that’s now being blamed on the lower-level employees. So actually, yes, it does mirror society today.

Question-
If the Steelers won, does Miami get in?
They didnt play Ben and I thought they still could have gotten the 2 seed?

Pederson may be the scapegoat. It is possible this was a directive from the administration.

I really want to agree with him, but I can't follow that sentence.

I lean on this stance. I think Judge is a bitch for what he said considering his team won 6 games and was whining about another team not handling business in the fashion they wanted. HANDLE YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS!

Sadly, probably true.

what's funny to me is that whoever made the decision (Pederson or higher) actually thinks Hurts was gonna win that game with as poorly as he was playing.

Haha NFC East rivals really trying to build this up hard. 48 hours later and the heisman winner being announced the mood has already shifted to draft. Once washington gets eliminated it will quiet down even more. Playoffs games happen nobody will be talking about week 17. But Emmitt and Eli trying to make it a thing. Sad attempt to try and mess up a rival off the field.

Biggest consequence will be two games against New York next year where dirty hits probably happen and it will happen back. Have a Giants friend who says, “this will destroy the Eagles program and nobody will play for them for years to come.” Yeah okay go cry in your coffee cause the team from New Jersey season has ended.

What is the Giants real problem? They started the season 1-7 and finished it 1-3. Don’t cry about missing the playoffs when you only won 6 games. You had a division lead in December and dropped three straight games. You are trash and no team from the East deserved to be in the playoffs. You are the most proud 6 game winner in NFL history. Lol

Public: omg the Jets are idiots! What are they doing winning games ????

Also public: What the eagles did was despicable! I can’t believe they would lose intentionally

This. I've got no issue with what the Eagles did (granted, I'm a Washington fan )

But even if I wasn't Pederson wasn't the first nor will he be the last to lose a game on purpose. And it's not like they didn't lose for any reason. They got a better pick. They're trying to better their team and be more competitive long-term at the cost of a win that wouldn't have done anything to them.

The only difference between the Eagles and others is that 1) Tanking in-game is rarely that obvious and 2) It was SNF prime time so everyone was watching. If this was a 1:00 PM game it would have hardly been noticed by anyone outside of the Washington/Philly/NYG fan bases.

Emmett, shite like this is why most other sports competitions, like the World Cup, put all games which affect each other on at the same time in order to minimize this kind of thing.

In the case of the World Cup, teams played to a tie with a certain score to ensure both advanced while blocking out a different team.

In this case, Philly made the decision that going 4-11-1 was a much bigger deal than going 5-10-1 for draft position and could give a flying frick about the Skins and Giants.

If this wasn’t the NBC prime time game, no one would give a frick but the Giants and their fans.

It doesn't. People who think that pro athletes and coaches who are trying to hang onto a job and make millions will intentionally put that at risk so their team can draft some 22 year old kid... are idiots.

Again, these players bitching would not have said a word if the races of the two QBs were flipped. Not that it matters, but they would have all been cheering about wanting a spark from the bench guy replacing the guy that was 7-20 so far in the game.

It’s a sad state of affairs that we know that would be true, but such is society.

I don’t blame Philly. Maybe they want a shot at one of the top QBs in the draft. Being top 6 vs top 9 is huge in that department

I love how a majority of this board hates Goddell. And now they are all up in arms about the integrity of the game. Lol

Three. 9 with a win and 6 with the loss.

It was 100% professional. Philly did what they felt was best for them. That's a business decision. You can argue it was ethically wrong, but it was the best business decision for that game.

Thats definitely true of players, not sure it is for coaches who are guaranteed to be back the following year. But where it falls off the rails is when coaches and the front office can strongly urge the coaches to play 3rd string qbs and backups all along the lines if they dont want to win. Come up with a better system for draft pick order, its not hard
