Let's say you just took a HC job at a losing program without a lot of resources; somewhere like Rice, Tulane, UTEP, ULM etc.

How would you build a winning program? How would you approach recruiting at a small program? What would you do to change the culture of losing?

I wouldn't even sign on if I didn't see that the Athletic department would be prepared to invest money into the program.

You can only do so much in a program that doesn't want to invest in the football program.

Good idea but how? You're a shite program so you will get flagged if you cheat on the field, and don't have the support to buy your players Dodge Challengers

Great video!!

Master the art of NEVER punting or kicking off with sabre metrics and make it fashionable. There was a high school coach who never punted or kicked and had tremendous success.

I led ULM to the promised land several times on NCAA so no doubt I could replicate that IRL

Do you want to keep your integrity, or don't give a shite, as long as you win?

A lot of ways to win, if you don't give a shite about your integrity.

Recruit local kids and try set up a pipeline with a talent rich area in the south as well. Would also rebrand/throwbacks, and create some new traditions to generate new excitement. Also bring in members of older successful teams to speak with team and create a new winning attitude. Easier said than done though...
Especially with Tulane and Rice... so much talent in the areas. Along with school prestige and history in those programs, you should be able to create a solid program year in year out.

Depends on your definition of success. You listed G5 programs some of which were private. So you have to pare the season down to 10 games that you deem winnable. You will have 2 money games which are likely losses. If you are private the university must agree to grant 100% admission to athletes meeting the NCAA Clearinghouse requirements.

Then you need to recruit players that fit your system. Always play to win, even if that means running the risk of getting blown out because of it.

Most importantly don’t take a job with no potential of winning long term. All G5 or lower P5 programs are cyclical, but some just can’t win consistently enough to make it worth it.

ULM would absolutely be dominate as an FCS program. The FCS talent that surrounds that school is ridiculous.

honestly i feel like going back to the Southland would be better all the way around for us at this point. Its not like the Southland is a massive drop off in top to bottom competitiveness in non football sports and wed stand a better chance of actually competing for something meaningful in football. But alas money rules all.

The group of 5 conferences should be their own division, above FCS but below FBS.

They should gave their own separate playoffs and champion.

Putting schools like UTEP in the same competitive tier as Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, etc. is clearly incorrect.

honestly I would be fine with group of 5 merging into FCS. Yes competitive balance would be an issue at first but I feel like it would even out after awhile.

For starters I'd try to do something no one else is doing. If you're going to lose the conventional way, just as soon try something unconventional. I'd probably stop punting and shite like that.

I'd focus on grad transfers and juco guys whenever possible. You're also probably going to have to take some flyers on kids with behavior issues if you really want to win.

I'd also put up a urine color = level of selfishness poster in the locker room.
