ideally it doesn't become fashionable so you have an edge by practicing it.
I agree with premise.
You can develop spirit d corps.
Recruiting is door #1.
Playing an attacking style will appeal to some.
I suppose id go after two way contributors. 4 star lbers who can block and power over rt guard if need be.
Wr/db. Nfl used to be 2 way.

Good idea but how? You're a shite program so you will get flagged if you cheat on the field, and don't have the support to buy your players Dodge Challengers

Many saying go Juco... that is what holds Rice back. They cant necessarily take those kids. You would have to pick the right job. I think some are almost unwinnable. You would think Rice should be better because of where it is, but you cant take as many shortcuts to get there.
I think you have to have a really clear identity on one side of the ball or the other. You cant get as many D linemen, so you almost have to play a 3 man front and really attack with blitzes from the second level.
Offense I think you have to go spread or triple option, and I think the answer there depends on where you are. Texas? Go spread. UNLV, maybe option, depending on what the kids are running from where you are. If you just cant get the athletes I think you have to go that route.
Also, I think you take a chance on some really sharp young coaches with ties to the recruiting areas you need. If you are UNLV you hire a guy or two from USC's support staff to recruit L.A.
If you are ULM you hire from LSU's support staff, and probably TAMU as well. and hire someone from a Juco program or two that can get you pipelines there to recruit from until you build your program to recruit HS.
