Did he really get a better contract? Debatable

It’s essentially a prove it contract. He proves it and he has a good season and he still makes more than Daniel on the current contract. Newton’s contract is more about next year too.

I’m curious if they negotiated a no franchise tag clause in the deal

Jameis throws for over 5,100 yards last year and plays the full season.

Cam plays two games last year

Jameis gets ~1 million.

Cam gets ~7.5 million.

Poor Jameis. Them interception doth fricked you.

Both were vet min deals with accelerators in the deal

Jamies can go up to 4.3 mil I believe and Cam can go up to 7.5.

Last I heard was Cam's camp had not let him be examined by either another team's doctor or an independent. With all his injuries & an unknown current medical condition, which idiot GM would put big bucks on the table, guaranteed, which is what Cam was demanding.

With incentives (that are probably tied to just showing up and playing) he makes more than Daniels and he’s on a 1 year prove it deal.

Daniels is on a 3 year this is the end of the road I need as much money as possible , deal.

Cam Newton career: 59.6% comp, 86.1 QB rating, 2.7% interception rate.

Chase Daniel career: 68.3% comp, 87.5 QB rating, 2.3% interception rate.

It’s almost as if there is another part of his game that you are ignoring. That question is really if he can still do that other part at a high level.

Cam’s prospects were limited. Either a Jameis Winston role under a sure fire HOF QB, or a starter on a team with no decent QB, with no recent high draft picks at qb (Buffalo, DC, Cleveland couldn’t take him due to high draft pick investments in future “franchise” qbs).

New England and the Chargers were really the only candidates.

He got paid his market value.

Injury prone, selfish, not a team player and un-Fkn coachable. Could easily be the best QB in the nfl...if he decides to be a team player and be coachable. His mechanics have gotten worse every year.

The Patriots hurried up and signed Cam so they wouldn't have to be called mean names for not pursuing Kap. When they obviously need a quarterback.

Thing is, if he goes balls deep in the league this year he will get back a huge contract - and chances are he will with the freakin wizard as his coach. I called him going to NE after he was released, Billychik gets 3 afc east titles with him, drafts another qb in year 2, then takes over for cam and rattles off another 15 years of afc east titles. Bills mafia keeps throwing themselves through tables, Jets fans keep drinking, and Dolphins fans still are non existent.

You are so ridiculous. Appropriate username though.

He didn't have to sign the deal.

It's also an incentive deal, no? If not, my apologies.

Guys take less money to sign with better teams.

He is coming off injury concerns.

He has regressed a ton. Regardless if it was injuries or something else.. he has to prove himself again.. He was wildly inaccurate at times.

He basically got benched and then TOOK HIMSELF out for the season.. That is also concerning when committing to said player.

If Cam was still tearing it up then he would be paid accordingly.

It's ridiculous to criticize a contract for a guy with so many question marks ATM.

Winston could have went somewhere else other than New Orleans for more money, but he wanted to make it work while learning under a more prestige team. That was more important to him and his own maturity. I actually said before any off-season that I would take Winston over Cam right now. Winston not only seems like the better current player, but his desire to mature is also more encouraging.

I can't believe there are people complaining about this. It's a salary cap league.. Come on.
