the veer works just fine thank you........
not the best offense when you need to throw and can't....
bears (like jesuit in 2014) did a great job of not letting the counter beat them... got burned a couple of times on option 14 found the guy out of place and made good decisions... but with his injury and not being able to throw late they were dead in the water when time wasn't on their side.... they were hoping for that busted D assignment late but never got it.....

Lol put Curtis against St. Amant and EA and see how that works out
EA has 3 SEC level players.....

It all started with Easton Roth back in the 1970's. They started off just hoarding in all of the kids in East Jefferson via the Catholic elementary route and corraling in Metairie playground, Johnny Bright and Girard playgrounds.
Then about 15 - 20 years ago when Jay Roth became the coach, they started recruiting for players.....Hank Tierney at Shaw did much the same thing in the 1980's . He could still be there today, if he did not try to tell the new Headmaster that he was Shaw and that the Headmaster should just sit down and shut up

Both defenses shut down the initial run
So catholic adjusted and ran multiple wide receiver sets and threw the ball to the outsude and seam. Great coaching
Curtis simply kept running the ball, hoping the talent would eventually win out.......Not great coaching
Just my two cents from someone who watched his first John Curtis game ever

There's just more competition now... The areas where Curtis could just pull whoever have shrunk

I think it is a simple approach that has worked for JT due to superior talent and players remaining in a system.
I honestly was shocked when I saw they were a veer team......With all I had heard about Curtis and JT, I thought they would have been a spread team

I've seen em play about 60-70 times, they have not executed quite as crisply the last couple of years as they have in the past....
when an opposing QB can remain upright most of the game short passing game is tough for them - mainly because their DBs are used to QB's not being upright long.
I have seen them score 3 fourth quarter 50 yard plus td's on counters and dives more times than I can count.. because of 1 player being out of place.... that did not happen sat... and once everyone could see the broken finger prevented 14 from throwing like he is capable - the box got crowded.
that 35 year old coach is an outstanding coach and that is putting it mildly.
also a lot of beating JC is surviving and minimizing the pops they will get - fortunately for C JC fumbled on one and the WR elbow touched the ground on another...

I just thought for the "best coach in state history", I was going to see something different than the fricking veer

Is this your first season following Louisiana HS football? everyone in the nation knows Curtis runs the veer.

I'd put 4-5 coaches in same sentence with him... but they don't usually have quite the "recruited or next level recruits players that most people think they do either. One thing about the veer(and I ran the veer) is that you DON'T need linemen to push far.... mostly you need brief counter or cut blocks to allow the qb to read who is where and what they are doing - and it happens very quickly... If in fact you are blowing people off the ball - the QB rarely keeps and rarely gets hit or hit hard.... nothing wrong with keeping it simple.....heck a lot of the spread teams are simply running the veer out of the shotgun except the dive is replaced by an inside qb KEEP....one thing i think that staff is missing the guy that is ball state too...

That's JT's son, Johnny. My guess is he's up there to get some college experience and return back to take over when his old man hangs it up.

I went to Catholic, we never played them
Since graduating, I have watched exactly two high school football games
Catholic vs Rummel
Catholic vs Curtis

Just thought it was common knowledge They start running the same offense, obviously at a lesser level, in the 3rd grade, playing playground teams. By the time they're in HS it is ran to perfection. I always said Malachi going for 1400 yards there in 2 seasons is like going for 4,000 at a different HS.

That’s just all they know. Not waiting for talent to win out, but waiting for that one slip up
Man I don’t like Curtis but they are taking some unwarranted hits on this board. They could have competed with any program in 5A the last 25 years. Their championship prospects would have been lower just because Evangel was automatic and when they weren’t around, WM cleaned up. But year in year out you’re talking about top 5 team statewide. Not just some years, but every single year

Just people who don’t know what’s up Les. Curtis won’t beat themselves.

Haven’t you lived in BR for quite some time? You’ve never seen Curtis play? Not ragging on you or anything, just seems odd

Catholic did this:
4 quarter finals-3 losses to WM/Evangel
7 semi finals-all losses to WM/Evangel except 1
1 finalist
So 11/20 years they made the quarters or better, with 9 of those years losing to only WM or Evangel
People like to say Catholic choked, but all their good teams lost to WM or Evangel. Hard to call that choking
