They are taking over the universe and i really don't get it. Is this really going to sustain? Newspapers lose money hand over fist yet The Athletic wants you to pay to read a piece from Joe Schmoe about different topics. Every now and then they may write some article that has a bunch of stat info tied up into it but I don't value any of the sports writers opinions enough to pay a dime for it.

I just signed up for it and I like it a lot. Honestly it's just refreshing having a place to read articles without all of the ads, autoplay videos, and general clickbait bullshite.

The app is really nice too.

I do with a 50% off coupon. If you have a team with a good writer covering them it is definitely worth it for 32$ a year that’s a lot less that 247/rivals and much better quality of writing ect

I subscribe and find it to be worth it. I don't read it as much as I would like, but I do listen to some of the podcasts. It's not very expensive, and I've cancelled some other website memberships anyway.

No, but i was curious how subscriptions went.

When you subscribe, are you subscribed to just that writer? Writers in that City? Sport?

I pay for it. It’s interesting, and they also have podcasts.

The subsricption is for the whole site. Once you create an account you can follow whatever teams/leagues/cities/writers you like so you have your own custom feed.

You get access to everything, but you can “tailor” your page to where it will show you articles for your preferences. For example, on my home page I get Pelicans, Saints, LSU football, and NBA articles. I can search out other articles for other teams or cities if I want.

I think most of those writers realize newspapers are fading fast and this was a way to combat that.
I've been tempted as it does have a lot of the writers I like especially during college football and NFL season.

It's awesome and extremely well worth it. You're definitely showing your ignorance from the "Joe Schmoe" remark; the folks they hire are the best in the business, and aside from that just the ad-free, autoplay video-free experience is worth the price of admission alone.

That said, you may not enjoy it if you find reading to be a chore.

I do the year long subscription think I got it for around 32 dollars. Due to being a subscription model in my opinion have by far the best writers and don’t write click bait articles that are meant to cater to the least common denominator and drive up ad traffic it’s not that expensive and has been worth it

I love it. But the best beat writer for one of my favorite teams is on there.

I think they are over saturated at this point though. Most of the articles on my feed I have no interest in, have to search out the good stuff. But having an app where I can get 90% of the article content I want in a clean, ad free way is worth it to me.

All of this. It got my attention when the Astros got writers, and trapped me for the long haul when they added Saints and a really great add with Brody Miller for LSU. They're even churning out NASCAR stuff, it's really got just about anything.
