Lebron’s fire lasted through out the night. MJ’s fire although was shorter, was so bright that you could see it from space.

LeBron spends millions of dollars a year to maintain his body.

This is such a false narrative.

The players back then were slower, smaller and weren't in that great a shape as they are now.

The defenses also weren't as complex.

Prime Lebron James had Magic’s size/strength/skill set with the athleticism of Dominque Wilkins. Even when Lebron eventually loses the elite athleticism, he would still be Magic Johnson level good.

Plus preventative treatment, body maintenance, and rehabilitation is probably way better now than it was 25 yrs ago.

maybe a little factor but players today are bigger, stronger, faster than they have ever been due to development of sports medicine… not just in NBA — a lot of sports ppl are more athletic than ever. Think of the size of linemen/linebackers in NFL in 70s compared to now for example…. Players are as skilled as they’ve ever been as well…

I’m curious. Does advanced stats show how many layups shot and layups made both MJ and Bron took?

Defense wasnt better. It was actually worse, which is why they had to resort to taking dirty cheapshots.

10 out of 10 times, I’d pick MJ over Lebron to start building a franchise. It’s not even close.

Its not even close, in regards to this debate, is pure dumbassery.

This is exactly what I was saying in my last post

Athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than they’ve ever been. Players in 90s in the watered down expansion league were not as good as skilled as they are now also…

Responses to us will be:

“But muh 90s defense” -11 “but I want the player who I grew up watching to be the best”

Fricking child mentality by some of these posters… Players are better now and they can’t get over it

You already know how these threads will end. LBJ is objectively just as great a player as Jordan. He’s lasted longer because players last longer.

But he’s a massive asshat, of his own making, and therefore will never be on par with MJ in many fans/pundits opinions.

How has Lebron not won a scoring title and a DPOY yet in the same year? One scoring title?

MJ still getting those scoring titles at 35.

*edited, left off the all important "same year"

Lebron wouldve won the scoring title last year but he didn't qualify by a game or 2. Might win it this year though.

There is more to being the best player than scoring the most points.

Lebron has a scoring title (07-08) and was robbed of a DPOY (12–13 season)

For the last decade teams have shifted away from defensive big men to smaller players that can spread the perimeter and shoot. Defense today is nothing compared to what it used to be.

I'm sure there are many factors.

The NBA was very physical in the 80's and early 90's. Hell, the Piston's entire gameplan to slow down Joran was just to beat the hell out of him. Then you have the fact that teams didn't really practice "load management". Outside of the 85-86 season for which he was hurt, Jordan started and play 82 games almost every year he was in the NBA. Finally, Jordan probably didn't take care of his body like Lebron. I'm not saying Lebron doesn't do this to some extent, but Jordan was always smoking cigars, drinking, and staying up late gambling. That was kind of the norm for professional athletes then. Now guys are much more focused on their health.

tougher league on both sides.

Laimbeer (and others) would have put his arse on the court every time he drove the lane. He would have spent 1.2 the game crying to officials. You need to go back and watch how physical the league was back when MJ played.

People confuse fouling with defense.
