A lot of these schools athletics department revenue relies on playing the big boys. We also haven't even discussed how basketball will be impacted as well.

You have to think this will have huge implications right?

For many of these schools it will be better to just not play than to play at a lost

In what way wouldn't it be better?

Financially speaking.

No way Southland conference schools can afford to travel and stay in hotels year long with cancellations of their “money games”.

Smaller schools from the non-power 5 conferences make a ton of money when Power 5 schools pay them to play. With all out of conference games cancelled, those teams won’t be getting those paydays. They don’t make much money (many lose money) playing conference games.

With no or few fans and concessions , it would probably be a financial net loss after paying the small schools. Nobody wants to see the cupcake games on tv except fans of the 2 schools. I think this is why they’re thinking conference games only.

A lot of FBS/FCS just won't play sports this year. Even with a full schedule and some cupcake money, their ability to pay for increased testing/cleaning/etc was going to be limited at best. Without those game checks, unless some of these schools have a big booster, I just don't see it happening.

NCAA will grant everyone a redshirt year, and they will try again next year.

The leveraged up P5 schools are screwed.....as well as the low hanging fruit.

Kansas State
Iowa State
Miss State
Ole Miss
Baylor
TCU
West Virginia
Oregon State

Women's golf, men’s golf, indoor track, diving, gymnastics will see drastic cuts at the P5 level all the way down the chain.

Title IX is about to be pushed to the side in a courtroom.

McNeese has their budget under control, so they’ll be just fine.

Women sports literally lose money every year. If other sports can't carry that it will be interesting.

Most schools won’t play sports this fall, even in D1. They rely heavily on the OOC schedule to make money.

What will happen to these schools tangentially attached to these athletic departments?

Problem is much of the cost is fixed, and not playing won't change that. Are they going to revoke the players scholarships? Furlough the coaching staff? Bond payments for the facility upgrades are still due.

The question is will the sponsorships, gate receipts, tv money be greater than travel cost and new testing protocols.

They are going to lose money either way.

If and when football is cancelled, it will drag down every other sport for ‘20-21 with it

If this causes a few of the many FCS schools in Louisiana to shut down, I don’t think I’d really lose sleep over it. We have way too many small state schools.

NCAA should create a version of the CFP for G5 schools. Would definitely drive a ton of interest and they could make a decent payday from the TV rights to a 4 or 8 team G5 playoff. Not gonna have a better time to make something like that happen than now.
