Today his buyout dropped $1million

And UH going to pay it

At the end of the day him and the athletic department kept bumping heads and it was time for each side to make a clean break.

I’d be embarrassed knowing that at one point, all my team had to do to get to the NCG (which they most likely would’ve won) was beat a 4-7 team AT HOME.

Be careful what you wish for. Per Bruce Feldman..

quote:

One name I’ve heard that is expected to be in the mix is Alabama assistant Butch Jones, the former Tennessee head coach. The 50-year-old spent two seasons on Rich Rodriguez’s WVU staff as a wide receivers coach before getting the Central Michigan job in 2007. His overall record in three FBS coaching stops is an impressive 84-54 with five seasons ranked in the AP Top 25. Jones lost some luster in his final season at Tennessee, going 4-6 before being dismissed. The Nick Saban touch, though, is real as he has resurrected and renovated many a coaching career. Worth remembering is that Saban has a lot of clout in West Virginia, the state where he was born and raised.

Houston has made a lot of coaches look good.

Art Briles
Kevin Sumlin
Tom Herman

Not to mention they have two former coaches who are in the College Football Hall of Fame: Two innovative offensive coaches.
Bill Yeoman
Jack Pardee

They also had a Heisman winning QB.

The city of Houston is not a bad football town for a mid major to reside.

frankly its the perfect situation. mid major in a massive football crazy town not confined by academics ie Ga Tech. There is more than enough talent to go around. Any up and coming guy would be very lucky to get that gig.

Frankly *in the AAC* its not unreasonable to expect 9-10 wins per year.

I’m not sure who WVU goes after but will they need the nod from Nehlen?

I posted this on the other board, but Leach immediately popped into my head.

WVU has more resources than WSU and from what I know about the WVU fan base, they probably wouldn't be put off by Leach's personality quirks.

Plus, Leach knows what he can do in the Big 12. He's made for that conference, although the Pac certainly isn't bad for him either.

Would you not move to Houston from Worst Virginia for a $20 mil deal?

Briles and Herman made Houston look good, not the other way around. Sumlin just lived off 9 years of Case Keenan.

There's also a history between Houston and Holgorsen. He was the OC there under Kevin Sumlin and developed Case Keenum into a record breaking QB in his system. From what I understand Holgorsen was seeking a raise that WVU just didn't want to commit to given the team's results under him for the last several years. The two sides decided to split mutually.

WVU is a tricky place to be at. Morgantown is a great college town and the fanbase is as wild as any in the country. The state itself doesn't produce a lot of talent annually but they're surrounded by some fertile recruiting states in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. If a coach comes in with a well thought out strategy to go after key players in those states they could do well there.
