I have no idea. His prime was extremely EXTREMELY short if we are being honest. He was probably past it before he lost to buster. But then had a comeback in a weak 1996 with the only good fighters being Lennox and evander. He went toe to toe but idk. Just had the perfect name and face for a boxer and those violent punches were a perfect storm for an icon.

Best brawler/fighter before the era of UFC/MMA. Probably not top 5 in terms of actual boxing. Jones Jr, Lewis, Holyfield, Ali, all better boxers than him.

Before Buster, he had a run.

My dad told me Ray Mancini and Sugar Ray Leonard were the two best fighters he ever watched. My dad loves Boxing. He also said alot of Ali's fights were rigged.

So was Bo Jackson’s but I don’t think people consider him less great.

If you judge fighters by their prime there was none better than Mike for most fans.

Longevity and all that it’s Ali or Foreman probably - Manny P and Roy Jones in that mix as well

I love Mike, and his peak was insane, but he’s probably the most overrated boxer ever.

He’s probably in the 7-10 range all time for heavyweights. Which is pretty incredible, but people want to put him in the GOAT conversation and he just ain’t that guy. Not even for heavyweights, much less pound for found.

He was never the same once that doubt entered his head.

I’m no boxing historian, and I know the greatest heavyweights all had more length and reach than Tyson, but Tyson’s highlights pre Buster Douglas before he lost his trainer Cus D’amato are the most satisfying boxing highlights in history.

What an absolute fricking machine that man was. Like a human pit bull cyborg made in a lab to knock people’s heads off

Anyone who was scared of him. If you weren't scared, could box, and survived the early rounds, you could take Tyson.

my dad told me Robin Givens fuk'd him up. Evidently he was beating on her and shite cause she was too hot and men abroad wanted some of that poon. He couldn't handle the attention. The minute he got his dick wet, his boxing career was over. He said shortly after all the drama with his ex wife, he fought Buster and lost.

It all comes down to whether someone’s criteria is peak/prime or longevity.

He really had nobody of note to fight during the 1980s. Holmes was shot, Spinks was not a real heavyweight. He was 50% 80s overhype.

He's below Ali, Foreman, Holyfield, Lewis, Louis, Dempsey and probably others.

Nope. Ali and Foreman would have handled him.

Ali, maybe. He was way too fast and powerful for Foreman in his prime

Nope. A bigger man who wasn't afraid would take him down. Hell, Tony Tucker and James Smith took him the distance. Foreman would have flattened him.

This, too

Tyson is 1 of 1 in sports history without being the “greatest”
