How do you handle a "fan" that knows nothing about their team

Correct them or nod your head and let them live on blissfully ignorant?

I work with a guy from Louisville, says he's a fan.
-He insists that Auburn and Louisville play in football all the time and played in the last few years (they've played once in 1974.)
-He claims Louisville played for and lost a national championship in football in the last decade.
-He's certain that Kevin Ware broke his leg in the National Championship game just this March.

This guy I don't even attempt to correct because he's beyond helping.

Another coworker is an LSU fan who knows just enough to hold a conversation about college sports.
-He was worried that LSU and Auburn wouldn't play each other this year because they don't play much. Being in the same division doesn't mean you play every year, as evidenced by LSU and UGA rarely playing.
-He said LSU never loses at home, "at least not in the 20 years I've been watching them."
-Informed me Auburn hasn't been any good since Eli Manning played QB for AU.

This guy I corrected on all counts, but he's brighter than the Louisville fan.

Avoid at all costs. If it's as bad you're claiming, i Never correct. I do anything I can to limit interactions, and if I can't avoid one, I say nothing of substance to get more talk out of that person.

Basically, end it as quickly as possible or avoid it.

My wife claims she's a Browns fan but can't name 3 people on the team. It's also the same situation with the Indians. I just laugh at her.

If it's someone who is just a little off on the facts (time/date/location) then it's worth correcting every once in a while.

Someone like you are describing? You'd get more accomplished by smashing your face into a wall.

It's kind of hard to avoid it with either guy because I work around them all day and they know I like to talk sports. They also start up the conversations now because before I realized how dumb they were I brought up Auburn's upcoming games with their respective teams.

It's also like trying not to look at a car wreck. As frustrating as it is, it's also entertaining and provides me with some good laughs.

I'd rather talk to those types than the marginally informed because of this.

I do wish LSU and Auburn played more though.

I work with a Cowboys fan that only knows two people in the entire organization, Romo and Jerry. Couldn't even tell you who the coach is.

I correct them. I just try to help them learn.

Just because someone doesn't know as much as me doesn't mean they aren't fans.

that's everyone

Manziel, and maybe you can count Josh Gordon, but most people won't guess Dwayne Bowe, or Karlos Dansby, or Joe Thomas, or Terrell Pryor, or Donte Whitner (I had to google it, I was gonna say Brian Hoyer lol)

I have a good friend that knows what he's talking about sometimes, but just spits out a wad of bullshite many other times. I have no problem calling him out that he has no idea what he's talking about.

This is in a city with pro teams in a Midwestern state with awful college teams. Nobody here cares about college football, this kind of thing is very common when I try to talk college football. Trust me, before I moved out of the south I didn't think it possible either.

My mom.

She pulls for Bama, but I know for a fact that she doesn't know the name of single player on the team, but she's definitely a Saban lover.

I try to ignore as best I can but sometimes I can't bite my tongue (see most of my posts on Pels talk for examples)
