Somewhat of a dick move, however it's his choice as the coach to recruit who he wants. If the kid is good he should have plenty of other opportunities.

I have a feeling this thread would be going a little differently if the coach was from a small new England liberal arts school, rejecting a player, and telling them to thank their conservative politicians

For what reason would a coach have to turn down a kid in a conservative State?
Guns? Pro-life?
None of those affect the ability of the kid to not fail a drug test and screw the team over.

The whole "liberal politics" line is a bit over the top, but it is a religiously affiliated school at the end of the day...its not like theres a shortage of kids wanting to play college baseball.
