re: How do you feel about this recruiting letter from Texas Wesleyan’s baseball coach?

well....the coach just opened the door to a nice little civil suit....if the parents have any intestinal fortitude or legal background, they will file suit and most likely receive an undisclosed settlement.
Dumb move by a coach that puts undue reputational risk on your institution.

Who didn't see this coming. No school needs this bullshite. Coaches dumb enough to respond like this don't need to be in charge of anything.

why are people upset that a kid doesn't get a chance to play for texas wesleyan? ... the coach did what he did ... he's the coach ... the kid can go elsewhere if he's good enough ... what's the deal?
It's sad that people have to explain this to you. That's not why people are upset. People are upset because the coach blamed in on the same tired, stupid and FALSE narrative about liberal politics.
In the other direction, it's like tweeting to a recruit from Louisiana that he doesn't recruit from our state because he doesn't want a bunch of racists and you can thank David Duke for that.

Jeffcoat is 100% right. Next time people should leave it out of their rejection letter.

Are you basing this on your extensive research and experience with possible drug use by High School athletes in Colorado?

This whole thing is stupid. From the coach blaming the Colorado laws and liberal politics and whoever put this out on social media.
Yeah it was dumb. No I don’t think he should be fired bc I don’t join in on the mob mentality.
And I think weed should be legal.

In the press conference, they referenced an additional NAIA violation as well as a contributing factor to him being fired. I don't know if they're just using that as cover to further justify the firing.

If he violated a rule or something fine. But this mass mob media movement getting people fired is ridiculous.
Equally as ridiculous as his letter

If I was the AD, I'd call him into the office and ask 3 questions.
1) Did he send the letter?
2) Was he sober?
3) Does he intend to stick by those comment?
If his answers are yes to all 3, I'd fire him on the spot.

I take exception to that statement... I played NAIA from 88-92 and feel like I could of easily made a D1 team but I had scholarships offers to play at a school with a great education. My senior year, I led all divisions in SB percentage 48 for 48.
I do agree with the letter though. Boss move ??

meh. he just created a shite ton of negative press for the school and the baseball program. in a vacuum he doenst deserve to be fired, but i can see a reasonable reason why he was fired once you factor in the overwhelming response that people had to the letter

Even if he didn't break a rule I see no problem with letting him go. He let his personal and political beliefs get in the way of doing his job. If he's recruiting players that can't pass drug tests, that's on him, not the state of Colorado.
