It’s entertainment.

People watch sitcoms based on LA or NYC.

Same deal.

I got no issue at all. I have a shite ton of friends who are USL grads but are every bit as big of an LSU fan as I am.

I attended a DIII state school in Wisconsin and then went to Florida for graduate school. I have little to no emotional ties to the Gators like I do for the Badgers.

Damn. I know Florida isn't what they once were but I can't imagine getting a degree from Florida and not having even the slightest interest in Gator athletics. Only exception I can think of that makes sense is if you have an undergrad degree from a rival.

My FIL, 91, has avidly routed for Alabama his entire life yet he has not attended any college sporting event on the Alabama campus despite living 35 mins away. And, he hasn’t attended games at any other location.

Anywho….

LSU is the flagship program of the state (no offense to folks in Laffy). Even here in the FL panhandle there are a butt-tonne of LSU fans that maybe once were tourists and decided they liked it here. It is just who you grew up rooting for.

I never went to SC except to attend a (free) acting class. Been a fan all my life though. Met one or two alums that got a little snooty but by and large my experience is that most alums are cool with my fandom.

You’re probably a fig if you care tbh.

I don’t make the rules, I just report the news.

I always thought it was weird that people in Cenla were so diehard about LSU.. but... the Saints sucked .. the cowboys are figs.. I get it......

The only thing that bothered me (as a UL grad) was when older people would aggressively ask you "how can you not support LSU if you're from Louisiana!?"

Cause I have zero attachment to them...

Grad school is different though. Most people I know don’t have anywhere near the connection.

As for me, grew up in Wisconsin. Graduated from a school without football. Family and close friends have UW degrees and I’ve attended Badger games from coast to coast.

I’ll put my Badger fandom up against just about anyone.

My alma mater has always been my favorite team, and I rooted for them long before I set foot on campus.

Forget Joe Burrow. Do you really believe that most LSU (or Alabama, or whomever) fans actually went to school there?

Just don't be one of those homos who roots for one school in football but another school in basketball.

My only shite talking is when a person became say am Alabama fan in 2008 yet has never gone to a game, has no intentions of going and only talks shite after they win but doesn’t actually watch the game.
I never went to lsu but I’ve attended games since childhood, my dad attended games since his childhood and we didn’t become lsu fans because we were good. Also, root for all lsu teams.

Most of the people I see around who wear purple and gold around all the time I know for a fact didn't attend.
The alums I know wear their gear on game day and that's about all.
