Because his contract was based on his anamalous playoff run, not his pedestrian large sample production. What's amazing is he is basically Eli Manning by the numbers, but because he isn't fake royalty (Eli is basically the Prince Andrew of that family) no one thinks simple Joe will be in the HOF.

He basically got hot for 4 games. It's kind of how Foles just caught fire last year. He's really not that good, but sometimes you have a hot hand and out duel Tom Brady in the SB.

Flacco’s trajectory was going up and up though I think most of us saw he was never going to be worth his contract. But then you’d risk losing him and burning through QB after QB like a handful of teams were/are doing.

He bet on himself. He won a Super Bowl and then negotiated his contract. Supposedly they were trying to offer him a contract before that season had started.
