That's fake news.

Just go look at Tampa Bay last year with Brady. They were not great early in the year due to Brady being new to the team (see Burrow in 2018). When Tampa got to the playoffs, every player on that team, offensive and defensive, had belief that they were going to win because they had belief in their team leader.
Burrow has that kind of effect on his team. He certainly did at LSU, and right now the Bengals have zero regrets with their #1 pick in the 2020 draft.

Why are you trying to make hindsight a reality? We already know he is one of the best if not the best single season QBs ever....

Ok?

There’s a little difference when you’re. 25 yo and a guy who’s been a legend and “the GOAT” your entire life with 6 SB rings is telling you “we’re gonna win” and one of your peers tell you that

I just thought that since a Heisman winner and National Champion was mentioned in the thread title then yall might not have much to contribute here
You don’t think fans should comment unless their teams have won championships or had Heisman winners? I know tons of very sharp fans from schools that have never had either. I may not always agree with them, but it doesn’t mean they have no informed opinions. We LSU fans cannot comment on basketball?

He was a better qb than Haskins. You try to use his 2018 stats against him, but you don’t grasp how antiquated the LSU offense was. We had 6 and 7 man protections and never sent 5 men out in the passing scheme. Burrow showed up in the summer and most of the team didn’t want him as qb. They wanted their guy that was already there (most wanted McMillan). Burrow couldn’t win over his team mates until fall camp, and even then it took until game 1 when Burrow got in the middle of a pregame jawing with Miami for his team to fully buy in.

You'd be amazed at how being overlooked motivates some people to be better. He may carry that chip til he wears a gold jacket.

A lot of bama fans think “29-0 = Burrow sucked in 2018”
Quinnen Williams game wrecked it.

Fields sucks
20-2 as OSU starter. Threw for 67/9 in two seasons as starter at OSU. Two time offensive player of year in Big Ten. Not sure what your standards are, but Fields did not suck in college.

And you don't grasp that Burrow might not have had it all put together at the time and neither did LSU, which actually makes 2019 even more impressive.
You are literally trying to ignore reality and substitute hindsight.

Agreed. But Burrow had his LSU team believing in him without the hardware already in tow. He had receivers and db’s meeting up for extra workouts on weekends in the summer. The guys didn’t miss. They followed Burrow.
What he’s done in Cincy I am sure has been similar. This guy had no prior NFL success. Every year hot shot rookie qbs enter the league and flame out. But Burrow has his team believing in him. Just after a year and a half of him leading them they are one game away from winning the division. They may not win the Super Bowl this year, but there is no doubt who is the face of that franchise and the next few years look like they will be one of the favorites to compete for Conference and Super Bowl titles.

Reality is that OSU couldn’t win it all with Braxton Miller, Dwayne Haskins, nor Justin Fields.
They would have won it all with Burrow.

Ohio State had the best team in 2019 if Burrow didn't transfer and rode the bench.
So there's that.

Anytime I’ve ever seen this sort of question, I’m always reminded that Tom Brady was the 6th QB selected in the 5th round of the 2000 NFL draft.
QBs drafted before him:
Spurgeon Wynn
Marc Bulger
Tee Martin
Chris Redman
Giovani Carmazzi
And Chad Pennington.

Ohio State had a loaded qb room.
Haskins was a Heisman finalist and first round draft pick.
Jameson Williams is at Alabama because Ohio State has two first round draft picks at wr in the starting lineup.
Good for Burrow, good for Jameson, good for OSU.

Todd Blackledge, Ken Obrien, and Tony Eason were drafted ahead of Marino.
So were Elway & Jim Kelly, but those two were understandable.
