The Grizzlies are more likely to resign Gasol than Mayo. Heisley is obsessed with him.

We pay Gasol max money, he better turn into a perennial all star or his deal kills us. I just dont think its worth the risk.

How else do we get a good center?

Alright CB, tell me if I'm wrong but how are you going to give Gasol a max deal AND bring in help that isn't "a second round pick"??

And what is a legit trade for CP?

They already tried to trade Mayo for Monta and got turned down

It's hard to explain all of this to someone that obviously hasn't spent much time on this topic.

Quickly, we could package CP3 with a bad contract (Posey or Okafor) and get young talent (cheap) and expiring contracts. That gives cap space (hello Gasol).

As far as legit trades, just follow the many threads on this topic. Most presented by Hornetards are overzealous, but there are legit deals that have been discussed on here.

Depends on how long Hollins is the coach. It's evident he's not big on it being OJ's team. (Which it should be IMO).

If Marc improves as much this year as he did last, he's more valuable to the Grizzlies than Mayo. Especially with Randolph gone, and Thabeet continuing to be the worst #2 draft pick of all time.

Free agency or a less expensive trade

Kendrick Perkins is a UFA next year. Noah is a RFA and will be cheaper than Gasol. TC will be an UFA and cheaper than Gasol

Does anyone else think that Marc Gasol looks like one of the Geico cavemen?

Chandler is done and Perkins is just average. I'd take Gasol over them, and I don't think he'll require a max deal.

If you watched the World Cup they showed Pau Gasol and his old lady. She was smoking.

Isn't Posey's contract up after this season?

Sorry to bug you with questions. I'll be sure to get my post count up in order to improve my knowledge.

Why are we wanting to get rid of CP and Okafor for this dude? Granted it I haven't seen him play much but what I have seen he isn't anything near max. And why would we dump CP in hopes of bringing in an "up and rising star"? We have a star...his name is Chris Paul.

1. CP3 will not re-sign with the Hornets.

2. I would trade Okafor for a 7-1 young offensive center in a second(hypothetical not an actual trade).

He's a legit big man, someone would make a roster of

Darren Collison
Marcus Thornton
Quincy Pondexter
Craig Brackins

compete in the west

Dalembert will be a FA, so will Kendrick Perkins. We almost drafted the poor man's Pryzbilla, the real deal will be a FA too. Between those 3, Gasol, Noah and Yao, I'd say the center talent in 2011 FA is deeper than what we see this year where Haywood is about the only option that's not washed up.

First, Isn't M. Gasol a restricted FA next year so they can match what someone offers him?

Second, why do we have to trade CP3? Can't we trade West and Okufur for some expiring contracts? If we do that and Peja's contract expires next year we can offer close to a max deal for Marc Gasol. Then we could try to find some MLE 4. That would give us a roster like:

CP3
MT5
Q. Pon
Glenn Davis, Jared Jeffries, Nick Collison or Yi Jianlian
Marc Gasol

Yes. The assumption is that between maxing out Gay and wanting to keep Mayo the Grizzlies can be outbid.

We don't. Whoever the new GM is needs to get in here fast and dump Okafor while Eastern teams are scrambling for players. I'd even package next year's 1st with him if that's what it took. Keep your core intact and 2 new starters 2 the mix. The 2011 Free Agent pool isn't nearly as bad as we've been lead to believe. There aren't as many top 5 players available, but all we want is a good starter at the SF and C positions. Paul, 4 quasi all stars and a solid bench should be pretty dangerous.

We won't have the MLE available if we get enough under the cap to offer a max deal. But if we dump Okafor and Posey we'd have about $25 - $28 million available under the cap, while still having bird rights to use on West and Thornton.
