I must be missing something... but why isn’t Houston a BIG12 school??...seems like a perfect fit... I imagine Texas has plenty of football players to go around... how was WVU even a option before Houston??

How many big 12 schools does Texas need? They would want to expand a different direction and pick up new markets

I think at this point most major universities would be against putting the largest school in Houston in a Power 5 conference.

Conferences don't give one flying frick about academics.

Certainly not the Big XII anyway.

They would add Oral Roberts' clown school if it made sense for athletics.

There are some great stories out there... but basically the only three who were supposed to go to the Big XII, after the SWC broke apart, were UT, A&M, and TTU. UT pushed very, very hard against letting anyone else in from the state.

However, Bob Bullock who was an insanely powerful Texas politician at the time, basically said either Baylor gets in, or he will block funding to the point to where none of them get in. UT decided in the end that the Big XII having their own Vandy would work out ok.

The attitude you see from Texas today, is the same they have had for a very long time. They don't play well with others, and think they are the best at everything.

Houston wasn't a major player when the SWC broke up and Texas didn't want them in the Big 12. Since that time conference realignment has been base on one thing and one thing only...potential TV revenue. Adding Houston to the Big 12 would bring nothing to the conference because the conference already has a huge market in Texas. While not a huge TV market, West Virginia did add a new market for the conference. It's the same reason the SEC took in Mizzou and A&M as opposed to schools such as a Florida St, or Georgia Tech which made more geographic sense. The SEC already had a presence in Georgia and Florida. They didn't have tv markets in Texas and Missouri.

They suck at everything but basketball. They’ll probably suck at that too once their coach gets hired away.

I'll give you 2 of the 3, but the Big 12 took West Virginia after the SEC & ACC rejected them, ACC schools cited academics.

Very true: Big 10 & PAC 12 consider academics some, the ACC cares a little too, but not the Big 12.

And, yes, Bob Bullock is the main reason that Baylor is in the Big 12 instead of Houston.
