They are the Miami hurricanes or Florida state seminoles of college basketball. They were nothing before coach K people just forget because he’s been there forever and is the winningest coach in ncaab history. Let the downvotes rain

When your success spans 4 decades, you’re a blue blood.

They made four final fours and had two title game appearances before K was ever hired. That, along with everything that he has achieved clearly makes them a blue blood.

I mean before coach K when Duke won their 1000 game they were only the 8th school to win 1k. So they much have not been horrible

They're new money in the game of college basketball re blue bloods, didn't become nationally relevant as a basketball school until they started their string of consecutive Final Fours in 88, before that they were a tier below NC State in terms of the college basketball landscape

Eh, blue blood is such a loose and undefined term. They are a blue blood by most people's standards. Especially regarding consistency in winning, resources, and tradition. He's been there for 42 years.

What is your definition of blue blood? Is it a winning program for 50 yrs, 60 yrs, 80 yrs, 100 yrs?

Bingo.

Not to mention the insane favorability they get in the ACC from the officials. I quit watching their games decades ago. I just watch them lose in the tourney instead.

Another fact that I found interesting is that in 1974 Duke won it's 1000th game, becoming only the 8th school in the NCAA to do so. Quick math, that was 16 years before Coach K.

They were top 10 in all-time wins by a program in 1980 (pre- coach k). Also, the NCAA tournament started in 1939... So K’s coaching career spanned roughly 50% of NCAA tournaments. It's hard to throw our 50% of a sample size.

This.

Is Indiana a blue blood? If so, it sure hasn’t done anything for them since Knight was fired save for the 2002 season.
