How was this a scandal?
If she had a two week hospital stay, while not covered by insurance, I don't see how she made out like a bandit.

It was either
A. A GoFundMe scam from the daughters exaggerating her illness to line their pockets
B. A multi-millionaire resorted to begging for medical bill money after being too cheap to pay for insurance
I’m honestly not sure which is worse. Either way it was in horrible taste.

Why exactly do we think MLR is a multi-millionaire? She was popular in an era that didn't really monetize popularity. She doesn't seem to have much of a post-gymnastics career outside of motivational speaking, and she's not married to a rich husband.

His idea is that the health scare was fabricated or embellished to get donations.

It wasn’t just a “two week hospital stay.” She was reported to have been in the ICU for nearly two weeks and unable to breathe on her own for a a chunk of that.
Her lack of insurance at her age and perceived socioeconomic status is perplexing, and it warrants explanation since people donated hundreds of thousands of dollars based on that claim.
