Honest question: why aren't New Orleans pels in the east?

Doesn't this make sense to have them in the eastern conference? Why are they in the nbas Western conference?

Do you know how longitude works? More than half of the teams in the NBA are East of New Orleans, so why would the Pelicans be in the East?

We need Seattle and one other west coast or mid-west team to come into the league so that two of either NOLA, MEM, or MIN can move to the East.

Right, then frick the Grizzlies, the Pels are going East!
ETA: The Pels should be in that division with the Hawks, Magic, and Heat. 1. because it sucks and 2. because it fits geographically.
