Based on that article posted by TutHill, it looks like Short is getting prepped to be the fall guy.

“I’m going to reserve comment at this time,” the new chief said. “But I will say this. I hope that cooler heads prevail. I hope the entire police department will not be painted with broad brush strokes for the alleged actions of one officer.

Word will spread among the officials like the plague. They will show up at games pissed off and ready to throw flags. You would think it would be just Mandeville at risk, but I bet it will be St. Paul's and Covington too before it is over as rumors are not always accurately spread. The LHSAA will send out something internal like don't take this shite out on these teams but it will be ignored. You just locked two guys up overnight, made officials find another ride home etc. They are going to be super pissed.

The story will be something Like:

Radcliff and the crew should have giving them a sideline warning and then just start throwing flags but it was a close game they were about to score and they didn't want to hurt the kids for the actions of this idiot. When Radcliff ask to speak to the Game administrator the Covington Cop with a kid on the Mandeville team (Number # )arrested him. Then the chicken shite bastards at St Pauls stood by and did nothing.

They will hear it like This "frick them all". I am about to show these mfers who is in control and what happens when you arrest one of my buddies and hold him overnight in jail for being a nice guy and trying to enforce the rules. You want law and order, I am going to give you some.

They can try to spin it that way, but he wasn't the only one out there arresting people.

Also frick the last post of a page.

The cop didn't understand that a field of any sport that is sanctioned by the LHSAA belongs to the referee when a game is being contested. The field belongs to him 30-15 minutes prior to the game until the approval of the final score.

If no crime was being committed, the cop has to obey the directions of the refs. Instead, the cop just wanted to whip out his dick and show how big it is, when in reality it's very small.

The ref is the law when it comes to an LHSAA sanctioned contest.

Refs or the LHSAA will not buy the fall guy position because the Interim Police chief issued a statement saying that Short was correct and refs were wrong and they were out getting witness statements from as many Mandeville fans as possible. (Stupid beyond belief btw)

If my kid played any sport for Covington, Mandeville or St Paul's I would want all of them fired or suspended without pay now, apologize profusely, have a refs appreciation day with free food and booze a band whatever. Football is fricked but you might be able to save the other sports.

Nah. They are border cities. Very few communities in the south make their municipal employees live in the community.

In Northern VA almost none of the district cops live within Arlington or City of Alexandria... too expensive.

There is going to be some serious revenge fricking going on in St. Tammany this fall.

I'm more interested than I should be in the results of that 2:30 meeting.

Is there going to be some serious butt kissing/dropping of all charges/returning of bond money or is everybody going to dig in and then it's really on?

recruiting is tough enough as it is

officials have to deal with stupid coaches, whacked out players and idiot fans but now they have to worried about the security detail too?

I know there are a ton of officials i worked with that were quality professionals and they have serious doubts about continuing to do the job. Throw in stuff like this and it makes it really hard to justify to yourself why you do it. especially as you get older. These two guys are both in their 50s and highly respected.

Yup. Only reason I don't do basketball is bc of the time commitment.

My buddy who started with me and worked his arse off is now a D1 conference official.

I sincerely hope these referees sue the responsible parties and receive just compensation.

It is a really bad job, hence there are really some bad people and people that are bad at it in it. However, the vast majority of the guys are doing the best that they can to get it right each game.

I bitched so much earlier in life that they made me an official for a while in college with the "if you can do better join us" argument.

I got a much better perspective then, and yes I blew a few damn calls then too. But not on purpose. I still yell at bad calls but also take the time to say thank you too.

had i started earlier i would have moved to the lower college level at least but now I am too old and I moved out of Louisiana so i quit officiating this year

i know there is a generation of guys in football/basketball/baseball that are 40-60 yr/o and were recruited in the 80s to early 90s. These are guys that are probably most familiar to fans, they are crew chiefs and they are getting older by the minute. when they break down/lose their motivation it will be incredibly difficult to replace them and what will happen is "check chasers" will fill the void. The "check chasers" only care about making money and not doing the best job they can

LHSAA rules don't overrule State Laws. Just because you LHSAA has rules in place doesn't overide any laws. That argument doesn't work.

On the other hand I have worked many high school events as a police officer and never had a issue with a ref. Like most refs, we just want to get through the game unnoticed.

It sounds like both sides let egos and attitudes get in the way of common sense in this matter and neither side was going to back down. That is a shame for all parties involved.

Hurting a cops ego isn't against state laws.
