Im on the refs side here.
However, I would have issued an in-game sideline warning then if nessesary a fifteen yarder to make it 3rd and goal from the 28 in a close game.
Stay within the boundaries of the game AND embarrass the hell out of Lt. Dan Limpnoodle

More posturing and a pretty strong statement from the LHSOA
Should be interesting to see the final report and the witness statements. I wonder how long before the lawsuits fly....
I can't imagine any official in their chapter accepting another assignment in that town.

I am buying this version of the story.
Skipper Sam ·
A Uniformed Covington Police Officer who was supposedly working the game as invited security detail, was standing on the sidelines with several of Mandeville's fans. The referee assumed the Officer was standing there to enforce crowd control. Why else would the Officer be on the field ? The referee had no idea that the Police Officer, Lieutenant Stephen Short, had a son playing for Mandeville (# 42) , and following Halftime, that the Officer had invited several of his sons friends and family, to come down on the field to watch the game During the entire 3rd Quarter The side Judge repeatedly asked the fans to move back away from the field. The final incident began with Mandeville facing a third-and-goal at the St. Paul’s 13 and trailing 13-3. The chain gang was again having troubles with the fans on the Mandesville sideline (The chain gang is on the visitors sideline so they can be viewed from the home press box) The line judge came over to the Officer again, and repeatably asked for the unauthorized personnel to be removed from the field following a request from the chain gang... When the side judge also asked the Sworn Police Officer to move back, the Officer told the side judge to shut up. The Officer then told the referee, "that the referee did not have the authority to remove them", and the two exchanged words. Then the head Umpire came over to move the fans. The Head Umpire then told the Cop that he would take it to Mandseville's Head football Coach if the people did not move back behind the fence Rather than be embarrassed by the game officials, the Officer, Lieutenant Stephen Short who also was frightened that the referee might blow his whistle or throw a flag at him, called for backup. Needing four other hero policemen, They rushed to the scene on the Mandeville sideline, and less than a minute later, the referee was escorted off the field. Soon after, the line judge was removed, and both were taken off campus and arrested.

If his son is on the team I am sure every official in the State knows his name position and number now, and he will be flagged at each and every opportunity.
As a matter of fact, if Mandeville or maybe even St Paul's can even find Officials for another game I would suspect that the crew would be very critical of every move. A/k/a expect penalties to go up 300% in every sport for the next few years.
I would suggest dropping charges and refunding bond money and apology tomorrow, or you can hang up any State championships for next decade in any sport.
Thanks Dad!

Not true. The people on the sidelines was MHS head coach's family.
and the chain gang guy was just being a bitch. It was a goal to go situation and the chains werent even in use. He was just complaining

The fact that those refs spent the night in jail over this is absurd.
Posted on 10/16/13 at 1:43 pm to supatigah
Refs association won't officiate any future games with Covington police working per the advocate.
Posted on 10/16/13 at 1:44 pm to supatigah
Update:
No LHSAA officials at any game that has any Covington cops anywhere. AKA Covington cops now banned from working any LHSAA event.
Oh and add Covington to list of schools with 300% increase in penalties now. Just because.
Short may need to consider moving...

Has there been any word on discipline handed down to the idiot police officers?
Posted on 10/16/13 at 1:45 pm to supatigah
I cannot fathom the level of pettiness by the officer(s) here, so much that these guys spent a night in jail.

Northshore teams will be treated like a Orthodox Jew at a PLO meeting by Refs for the rest of the year. Playoff's will not be an issue to worry about long. If they make it will be out ASAP

just mandeville and st pauls..

Payback is going to be epic, and on the wrong people, the kids at Mandeville, Covington and St Pauls. If you kid is at Covington or St Paul's you need to have an emergency meeting and think of ways to try and stay out of the line of fire. Mandeville you are just screwed.
Posted on 10/16/13 at 1:52 pm to TutHillTiger
Mandeville high is going to be the only one screwed here bc of the arresting officers affiliations.
Posted on 10/16/13 at 1:52 pm to TutHillTiger
Not sure it will not be Covington too as were Covington cops. Doesnt really sound like St Paul's did anything wrong other than hire keystone cops here but I agree they are equally screwed.

Covington cops and SPS didn't exactly either try to defuse the situation or side with the refs afterward. All three will be paying the piper on this one.

Sounds like a cop didn't understand that a field of any sport that is sanctioned by the LHSAA belongs to the referee when a game is being contested. The field belongs to him 30-15 minutes prior to the game until the approval of the final score.
If no crime was being committed, the cop has to obey the directions of the refs. Instead, the cop just wanted to whip out his dick and show how big it is, when in reality it's very small.
The ref is the law when it comes to an LHSAA sanctioned contest.
