He put the cop in a bad situation.

What? Having his authority questioned like normal people every day of their lives? Pussy cop couldn't stand for that.

the important question is was he there in an official capacity - on the payroll for security or was he there as a fan/dad? If he was not paid to be there as security and he was just a fan/dad then he had no business on the sideline and no business interfering with the officials. If he was being paid to be there and he didnt do his job and remove unauthorized spectators from the sidelines then he should be reprimanded.

Cop's kid was playing, needs to be at the very least suspended from the force for a while, and banned from going to games. Should be grateful if he does not get fired and or sued for a civil rights violation.

He was part of the paid security detail. They actually chose him thinking that he would be especially professional since his son was involved in the game.

well that would make sense if he was a professional. Allowing a bunch of unauthorized spectators on the sideline and then arguing about them being there with the officials pretty much blew that up. Arresting those that questioned his judgement is the shite icing on the turd cake

Not that I've been checking constantly on every little development but this thing seems to have dropped below the radar for the most part.

Unless I've missed it, no pissed off statements from either the refs or whatever organization that assigns the officials and nothing new from the cops.

Is there some behind the scenes smoothing over taking place?

Nola.com had a story where the officials association came out and said the refs did nothing wrong and were within their rights to tell the cops to leave

Although I agree with the write up, that is an opinionated article.

[quote]All true. The referee only needs to speak to one person...the principal/game administrator.

As far as action by the LHSAA, they have no authority over the police...only the schools and officials. I wouldn't be surprised if the host school gets hit with a heavy fine. The referee will be admonished to only communicate with the game administrator.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the host school is unable to get officials for the next home game. The officials' association will likely band together and refuse to send anyone. The state may have to assign officials from outside the area.

Another interesting question would be, is there grounds for a lawsuit against the police by the referees, the referees association, or the LHSSA? [quote]

The arrest was a bit over the top, but police causing problems at a St Paul's game isn't anything new. I know it won't happen but for one week I would love to see the officials make a united stand and refuse assignment to a game @ St.Paul's. Harsh yes, but this incident is partly on the administration at St Paul's. If it forces them to have to play a road game rather than a scheduled home game it might get the message through.
