State tennis quarterfinals. We were the #3 seed in doubles playing an unseeded team. If we won we would've been in the semis vs a team we had beaten handily a couple of times during the season, which would have set up a rematch in the finals vs a Jesuit team we had just lost to in a 3rd set tiebreak just a couple of weeks earlier.

We win the first set 6-3 and are up in the second set 5-3. I'm serving. We go up 40-15, two match points and I fricking double fault twice in a row. We end up losing the game, lost that set in a tiebreak and then lost the last set.

They actually played really well in the last set and probably deserve a lot of credit for the comeback but god damn those two double faults will haunt me to my grave. What could have been.

2010 LHSAA 3A state championship thought for sure we had that game won at halftime just to come out and play horribly in the second half.

I figure this thread is for that confession.

What if

Guilt

Sorrow

Anger

Forgive yourself.

I missed one free throw with 45 seconds to go in game I related above. I was fouled on breakaway after I stole the ball.

Even though there were lots of plays that had nothing to do with me, if I make my ft, we win.
We lost.

I started this thread because I was thinking back to high school my senior year in baseball. I was knocking the ever living shite out of the ball and played pretty well in the field and on the bump too (2a Arkansas baseball so the competition was dogshit but hey I was feeling good about myself). Anyway 2nd round of the state playoffs we were a 1 seed playing a team we had run ruled earlier in the season I’m coming off a 9 game hitting streak batting clean up and get the ball to start the game. I proceed to go 0 for 4 at the plate, 1 of only 2games I did not reach base all season, and walked 9 batters. Just had zero control that day for some reason. We went 9 innings losing in extras. I felt like I was physically sick and might throw up knowing how I ended my career. After about 30 minutes by the time I got in the bus it had turned to numbness which is pretty much how I felt the entire 4 hr ride back home and most of the following day

In the finals of a tennis tourney when I was maybe 14, I won the first set 6-1, was up 5-0 and 40-Love in the 2nd set. Ended up losing the game, losing the set 7-5, and then losing the next set 6-2.

I think I had something like a dozen match points in that second set and couldn't get it done. To this day, I don't know what happened.

We were playing in a big 3 on 3 tournament when I was in middle school. With it just being half court, there were two games going on at a time. I'm guarding my guy at the top of the key as a ball from the other game comes rolling at me. Out of instinct I pick it up and toss it back. As I'm doing that my guy drills the winning 3 in my face.

I played in the Nightengale Game Byrd vs Evangel.

Late in the 4th we were up by 4 and our Fullback who rushed for over 270 yards broke a long one. With no one around him the ball popped out of his hands and rolled around the pile-on giving Evangel the ball back with about 4 min left in the game. We couldn't stop their O. Brent Rawls was slinging the ball everywhere. It was a Thursday night game so we all had to get up and go to school the next day.
