Have you ever lost in a sporting event that left you shocked
Title pretty much says it but have you ever been in a situation where you thought winning was almost guaranteed only to choke it away? I’m not talking about a team you root for but you personally

I’ll allow if you were coaching

Playing in junior high school, we gave up a 15 point lead in a basketball game with under 2 minutes to play. That was the biggest collapse I've been a part of.

My HS team was up 27 points in Burnet HS in a basketball tournament at half and we lost by 8 lol.

Some kid legit went 12-13 from 3 in the second half. Our coach took us home and made us run lines for two hours.

I played rugby for St. Paul's when we won the regional championship our 2nd year as a program. We swept Jesuit and Rummel who won the last 6 straight championships and went to double overtime vs Shaw to win in PKs during the final. So I am mainly giving this from Shaws side but I also just wanted to give a big F U to the Blue gays

Deone Jackson wrong handed wrong way turnaround chest pass shot to beat us in Arch Madness. I walked off the bench thinking what just happened here. I had no words

Miracle on Markham fits this description. Saban kicking the field goal up only 3 on a 4th and short deep in Arky territory is a mistake he wouldn’t make today.

HS baseball game my senior year, that was between in intown rival that had been sucking for years. We were the best team in the city for many years....

They spanked us, then went on to have a dynasty of sorts. Score was 15-1.

When we went back to practice, some of the guys had a quasi-PTSD. Haha they were doubting themselves and changing their mechanics

Been a part of a few wild 7th innings in baseball, on both sides, but never lost a game that was shocking.

Won a game that was shocking, but I know that's not what you asked.

ETA - I take that back. We lost in the first round of the football playoffs to a 30 seed, a team we had beaten 28-7 in the regular season at their place. The result was shocking, but the game itself was like a slow death.

Pretty easy unless you were a player or coach.

When hunter Henry was being tackled on the sideline and managed to throw the ball backwards and the following events left me scarred for life.

We were really good my senior year of HS. I was on normal rest headed into a big playoff game and our coach decided to throw our number 2 starter instead of me(I gave up 2 earned runs my entire senior season).

We got down 5-0 after 2 and coach threw me in. We ended up losing 5-4 to a team we had beaten about 7 times in a row.

I was NOT happy..

I was in a basketball game that went to ot, thanks to my outside shooting to lead the comeback, and my blocked shot on the other team's star with 3 seconds to go.
I went to the bathroom.
I came back and the game was over. The ref did not give any time before the ot.
My team lost.
That was stunning.

I had 16 starts and decisions my senior year of high school. Our #2 had arm soreness issues and I started every playoff game the first 3 rounds. Semi-final game we throw #2 and we're losing 6-1 after 6 innings. Opposing team takes out their ace after a walk in the 7th. Brings in their #2 guy for the save, he proceeds to give up 6 runs, including the walkoff double w/ bases loaded.

That half inning was the most insane emotions I've ever experienced. I went from downtrodden that I didn't throw a pitch in my last high school game to panicked/anxious as I was told to warm up in case we tied it during the comeback, to insane jubilation as we walked it off. Game ended at like 9:30 and was still a 90 minute bus ride back to the school. Got home at like 12, could hardly sleep, and had to start the state championship game the next day at like 2PM, a game we lost in the bottom of the 7th on a walk off sac fly.

Pretty much the worst, best, then worst 24 hours of my life.

Shocked that was allowed.

Town next to mine won the baseball state title with an ace like that. Well afterwards it was realized they had violated AHSAA rules and over pitched him. They had to forfeit their state championship.
